This error BY THE FED ONLINE SCORING kept me from getting the top score in my association:

71) The batter will be declared out when: [Rule 7-4-1f]

 A.  An attempt to bunt on the second strike is foul.
 B.  The third-base coach interferes with the third baseman attempting to catch a foul fly ball. (Incorrect)
 C.  With two outs and a runner on first base, the missed swinging third strike is not caught. (Correct Answer)
 D.  A, B and C.

Even the rule reference is for "any member of the offensive team or coach...interferes with a fielder attempting to field a foul fly ball."  However, not a big enough deal to get worried about as it won't affect my status or playoff games.  Oy vey...

Someone at FED hit the wrong button? I'm shocked, shocked.

This confirms what we were trying to figure out earlier this week.

I didn't have 71 but my buddies did and they didn't get 100% on their tests.

There's for sure an error on the key.  I emailed our state office and they claimed to know nothing about it.

But it's a national error.  Good stuff.  So if you have 71 you have to answer it wrong to get it right.

I'm not allowed to review my test until testing closes 3-21. Can't wait to see the 2 I have wrong.

There was a question about F1, with a runner on 2nd, stepping and throwing to F6 or F4 who were not covering 2nd.

At a meeting I attended the prevailing sentiment was this is a balk, and the "powers that be" that were running the meeting weren't really interested in listening to the few of us who were trying to explain this isn't a balk.

I just scanned back over my test, Richvee.  I didn't have that question so I can't offer you anything on that one.

I'm not 100% sure where our questions come from on the Jersey test. I think it's a combo of some national FED test questions and some made up by our state association.

Jersey test is made up by 4 guys at NJSIAA.  They did 20 questions each, reviewed them.  Threw a couple out, went back and added new ones.

In all 80 questions were submitted to Arbiter.  We get 50 out of that 80 for the test.....but there's more...there are 12 questions just about mechanics and at least 10 of your 50 are mechanics related.

Wait....There are also a number of Jersey specific questions that you would need the state book or the sheets that were handed out at the state meeting.  These have to do with umpire uniform and playoffs.

I have a pdf of the 80 questions, answered.  But not all the answers are right.  Why?  Because there isn't enough information in the question.  If youse guys (joisey guys) want what I have PM me with your email.

Well i know one question I got wrong on the test both times HAHA......

if a relief pitcher comes into the game and throws 4 long tosses to the plate before pitching the from the mound how many warm up throws does he have left?

AS YOU GUYS CAN IMAGINE IT BLEW MY MIND....yes good umpire won't let it happen but a distracted one doing lineup things could have it slip by them if the HS HCs know this rule....MIND BLOWN!

I almost had an ejection over something very similar to this a many years ago.  Kid came in and threw 6 pitches from the side of the mound, I said "two more" and his jaw hit the floor.  This was in the post season too...so it likely wasn't being enforced at all.

No I got even better for you.........we were told in njsiaa that those long tosses from off the mound doesn't count!! Yeah that was a question I got wrong! I couldn't believe it I looked at somebody on this forum and said well that's one I got wrong haha

Why even have a warm-up pitch limit if by rule those don't count?

OK: have you ever done this?

DC requests time for a conference, goes to mound. His new F1 is warming in the bullpen. He chats with outgoing F1... till you get to the mound. "Coach, are we making a change?" "Yes..." and nobody moves, new F1 still pitches in bullpen.

And you start counting to 8 pitches...

Well they said to us quote "don't allow it to happen but technically pitcher has to toe the rubber" just sat there smh lol

Nope...can't say that I have.  The middle piece has happened to me though.

Good point we spoke about that too and changes are suppose to be brought to our attention before the mound visit unless injury is the result of change.

If the substitution is due to injury, then I'll tell the coach to bring him in now, and he can have a reasonable time to warm up. That should happen on the field, not in the bullpen.

100% agree just saying that's the only time I allow the coach to go out without letting me know about a pitching change.

How about this beauty of a question from the wizards in New Jersey:

During a live ball, who may leave the bench area to greet players for any reason?

a. Coach

b. Player

c. Substitute

d. Attendant

e. Other bench personnel

f. all of the above

I was stupefied when I read it. Were you? I checked the question online again just to make sure that I did not copy it incorrectly, and I had not.

Did I say I love the NJ Fed test?

Subsequently the keepers of baseball knowledge changed "f" to none of the above

:ranton: OK. I got to review my NJ state FED test today. Evidently the NJ powers that be don't understand that with R2, F1 turning and throwing to F4 who is off the base is a Feint to 2nd.

Question #31
R1 on second and F1 wheels and throws to F4, who is standing stationary about 15 feet from second base at his defensive positon.
a. Legal
b. Illegal
Explanation
Rule 6-4b

I can live with their misinterpretation, but this one is just flat out wrong. Seems they can't even read the case play they cited correctly.

R1 is advancing to second when the ball batted by B2 is dropped by F4. The ball then touches R1, and in so doing, prevents F3 from making a play on the ball. U2 rules R1 out for interference
a. Correct
b. Incorrect
Explanation
Casebook Play 8.4.2 Situation I

:rantoff:

Sorry. Had to vent.
