Yea, yea, yea

NFHS, whatever.

I used to teach my catchers to drill the motjerF*#Kers right between the shoukder blades if they ran in fair territory or adjusted in or out when the catcher called inside or outside before the throw.

Since so many umpires F*#K this call and rule up I wanted to make sure the runners doing it learned a lesson. But this was Legion championship level ball I coached where 85-90% of my players played or were destined to play college baseball.

I'm a big fan of the unwritten rules of the game.

BTW, Love CAV's comments about the NFHS trying to dumb down rules but instead making things more complicated.

Thanks, I don't even know if they're all mine.

Quality throw not required is a good example of a NFHS solution to a non-existent problem, thus itself becoming the problem.  The "hook" in selling this provision, I've been told, was that it was a "safety issue" the NFHS didn't want fielders bore sighting in on BRs.

I was a catcher.  I plunked several BRs in and out of the running lane (never on purpose; I don't think that fast) and inflicted zero casualties, experienced zero attempts at any retaliation and having been in and around the game for several dec...years, I know of no one else who has experienced anything different.

Skip:  WHAT?!

Me:  I called interference, your hitter was outside the running lane at the time of the throw.

Skip:  SO WHAT?!  THE THROW BOUNCED TWICE BEFORE THEY PICKED IT UP!

Me:  The quality of the throw is not a consideration for this interference.

Skip:  WHAT?!

Me:  Let's play ball.

Skip:  WHAT?!

Can someone give me the rule where it states the quality of the throw is irrelevant?  I know that is the case, but I need a rule or case ruling.  I"m trying to win a bet!

You just asked that in the other thread, where it was answered (twice).

This is off of the IHSA (Illinois) part 1 exam,I submitted my test today curious how everyone else answers this one. #20 which answer is correct regarding a running lane violation? A.a throw must be made, even if BR is running inside fair territory preventing the catcher from throwing to 1st without hitting be in the back.B.Both feet must be inside the running lane in order to prevent a violation. C. BR swings and misses a pitch in the dirt for the 3rd strike which bounces off the catchers chest protector toward the 1st base dugout.the catcher retrieves the ball about 10feet from the foul line and throws to 1st,hitting BR in the back who is running completely outside the running lane in fair territory prior to reaching 1st.This is not a running lane violation.D.all of the above are true

Are you able to edit or retype that in more of a list format as opposed to paragraph?

D.  All of the statements are true, and I think most of them are discussed in this thread.

That's what I had also, they have used the same question two years in a row on our part 1.
