Here is the gap protection mod I did for my Douglas.

I used the tops off my old diamonds and secured them by drilling a few holes and some hockey helmet screws (small posts)

Must say it was easy to do and works great.

@Razzer - Your idea drove me into motion about this...I didn't do the modification that you did, rather I used the velcro attachable foot protectors in an underneath form of gap protection. I will post a pic shortly.  Little less dangerous method for me(no power tools). Sits just right on the traps when installed correctly.

One thing Douglas lacks is wing protection compared to the Gold/ Platinum and most other CP's

This is my next mod and parts will come from old shin pads...they are your friend just like duct tape ...lol

Clever idea. I've seen it done with toe plates from a set of Wilson Golds before but never like this. I've never really felt like I needed the gap protection on mine and because of that I've never looked into doing it myself but if I were to I would defenitly consider doing it this way. The only modification I'm trying to work out right now is some sort of elastic straps to go under the padding connecting the shoulders to the body of the CP like how the platinum uses just to help keep them tucked down but I haven't gotten very far into that project.

The only reason I did the gap protection is because I got rocked in 2012 and it was dead on the little gap and if I think about it I still feel that shot.

Douglas make great Football pads and  if they just made the the CP with a gap protection they would be selling more units. The project you are doing...if you use

the Delta Flex harness it should help. I made my own and it works to make the cp sit right on the body.

You can get West Vest Gold style gap protection from Douglas now ..... protective, thin, non bulky.  But, ... it has more coverage than the Gold version

I already use the delta flex on all of my CPs. Best harness on the market bar none.

Here is my version: Velcro of the Foot piece on the diamond shin guard attaches well to the CP and the top gap is taken care of with a piece that sits well on my trap/shoulder area. It looks a little more pronounced on the picture due to the fact that the shoulders are falling forward further than what they will with a shirt on...but you get the point.

Why are they so far back?

He needs protection on his back in case the ball bounces of the fence behind him.

Like I said, it is a little more pronounced on the picture...the toe caps sit near my trap area and cover the v between the shoulder cap and collarbone protection. I could take a picture with it on and you would see that the affect on appearance is nearly nothing, but that would require a selfie of some form which I have vowed to abstain from!
