1st of the year last night in Legion game.

 

VTHC is known as a pain in the ass. He also happens to be the president of the league.

 

After a couple of whackers that went against VT by my partner, and his whining from the bench about the strike zone, his team was losing in the bottom of the 5th. He comes out to make a pitching change with a stream of "You two are horrible.... neither of you will never see this field again......you should be ashamed....you need to learn what a strike is" and BOOM!

 

As he is walking toward the dugout, he pointed at the plate and said,"That's home plate!" and I pointed at the exit and said,"There's the exit.... keep moving."

 

The next inning F9 from the home team runs full bore into the outfield fence chasing what would be a homerun ball. When the player collapsed on the field, who shows up? That's right boys and girls.... VTHC, who the remains standing along the right field line after the player recovers. He was instructed to leave and began arguing again. I instructed HT to leave their defensive positions and go to thir dugout and we waited until Rat #1 left the premises.He eventually did and play resumed.

 

My partner has him again tonite. Should be interseting.

And he's the president of the league, and sits on the protest committee and interviewed himself for the position? Sounds fishy to meeeeeee

Sucks to work games with someone like that always hovering around with an "Ego bigger than the game."  Good luck for the rest of the season.

I am not picky with my assignments but my one bugaboo is umping for someone who will use a board position to push me around, at most I get $56 good money for a 17 year old but its not enough to make me put up with that kind of BS

Other than he has to leave the game, is there any penalty, say a 1 or 2 game suspension, for getting tossed?  Sure doesn't sound like it.

In our league and tournaments, umpires can recommend to the board or TD a suspension depending on the severity of the situation, abuse dished out by the offending coach or player or threats made.  Most of the time, they are ejected for that game and can come back for the next.

In our league, if a coach or player gets ejected, they are also gone for the next played game.  Can't even be around / on the premises.  If found to be on the premises, they are gone for a third game also.

I would email the entire board about the way he acted. There is no reason you should have to put up with him getting away with acting like that. I think if you sit on a board you should not be able to coach.

I disagree, coaches should be allowed on the board, but as President or VP they should not but if they want to be field coordinator or an age group coordinator more power to them for doing so much for a league

Good luck with that.  Obtaining enough volunteers is a key issue for most leagues, and those willing to be on the board are also the same folks willing to coach.  IIRC, LL has a rule that the majority of the board must be non-coaches.  That seems like a good balance to me.

I had to toss the President of our league. I don't think he wants to manage, but he almost has to because there are so few people who are willing to do it. I tossed him, I sent my ejection report to my umpire in chief, as I always do, I also usually sent it to him, so I did, but also sent it to the vice-President and both conveners for that league as well. You gotta cover you backside.

There are so few volunteers in our league that not only am I the President, (this is starting to sound like an infamous commercial) I'm the UIC AND the Safety Officer.  I once got an email about an upcoming Umpire Clinic in our area with the specific, all caps missive "NO LEAGUE PRESIDENTS SHALL ATTEND".  I politely asked the sender what to do... with no response.

Decad...I mean, years ago, I had just joined a local umpires (high school games and below...way below) and discovered that the president and local rules interpreter was also a local HS varsity baseball coach.  He gave me an opportunity to bounce him in our first encounter. 

 

The very next association meeting I went to, all the vets handed me $1 bills for being the first to do so.  As much as I liked the extra money, the act bode ill for the ilk of that association.

I hope the asso meeting attendance was large enough to cover moving expenses.
