First inning. R3

Batter squares to bunt.

R3 Stealing Home.

Batter offers at the pitch just about the time the runners is sliding in.

F2 tries to make a tag. But can't because batter is in the way. I call Safe. Coach comes unglued.

Am I correct that there is no INT here? Batter had no time and nowhere to go.

As described, good call.

It might have been a screen play if the batter is a righty.

It works most of the time.

Borderline illegal BUT it’s hard to justify an interference call if these guys execute it properly.

The key is to have the batter position himself so that his lower body is blocking the catchers line of sight down the 3rd base line THEN R3 creeps in silently with a quick burst of speed at the end. Batter stays in the box and looks confused and unaware.

Boy I sure learned a lot of dirty/trick plays playing men’s travel fast pitch in my younger days.

F2 should not need to rely only on seeing R3 to be ready to make a play.

True- BUT Chief Rolo only calls T-Ball and machine pitch SO the catcher is not very aware of what is going on.

I remember seeing him in the “diapers on the diamond" world series last year on the Lifetime Network.

He was great with these little guys, wiping noses, checking poopie pants and giving out Goldfish crackers.

He would actually take 4th inning naps with them (Rule 5.6.3)

@JaxRolo - What a man!

Don't see how its borderline illegal at all.  If the batter "makes some other move" or whatever the wording is, then get the out.  Otherwise, it's no different from swinging on a steal to protect the runner.

The batter IS interfering with the catcher WITH a runner coming home.

By swinging at a pitch that the batter has every right to try to hit?

Nope. INTERFERING with his attempt to make a play on the runner.

Sure, F2 might be hindered by the batter being where he is permitted by rule to be. But that hindrance does NOT constitute INT.

All INT is hindrance, but not all hindrance is INT. :)

And with R2 stealing third, and the batter backs up in the box (before the pitch) -- is that also interference because he makes it harder for F2 to throw out the runner?

As described, it's not interference.  Look -- I'd like to believe you -- it would make more sense then accepting that Jax got one right. ;)  But, I don't think I can.

And if he'd actually laid down the bunt instead of missing the pitch?

Are you saying a batter has to vacate the area on a suicide squeeze?
