NCAA 2014 Quiz #1

Took the quiz today without the book and missed two questions out of 10.

First miss involved B1 swinging at the ball with his foot in the air. He hits a single as (a) his foot lands inside the batters box or (b) lands outside the batters box.

I answered that it was legal in (a) but illegal in (b). According to the answer... it is legal in bot.

Second question had to do with a batter contacting the ball with his foot partially on home plate. I remembered that HS any foot on home plate and contacting the baseball is illegal. And I remembered that OBR says the whole foot must be on the plate to be illegal.

Evidently, NCAA follows the FED version of the rule and not the OBR version.

Partially touching home plate might or might not be illegal in OBR. They don't care about home plate. They (and also FED and NCAA) care about the whole foot being entirely outside the batters box and touching the ground including or not including home plate. FED and NCAA also care about any partial touching of home plate.

I think I just didnt understand the intent in the first question. The second I could not remember if NCAA follows the pro or FED rule regarding making contact with the ball while standing on the plate.

the odd part is this is an NCAA quiz, and you're unlikely to ever see the first situation. I mean, ball hit with one foot in the air??  Really?  AND you notice where it lands afterwards?  lame question.

In all codes if the ball is hit while the foot is in the air it's legal.  Its only illegal to hit the ball with the foot on the ground entirely outside the box (or touching the plate in FED and NCAA).

 

the question could have been worded better though, I think.

 

I do hope they will continue with quizs and videos -- they could do a lot more with the site than they have in the past couple of years.  The basketball side is generally better at this.

I'm trying to take Quiz 1 right now. Anybody else having issues accessing the quiz?

Johnny... I had a heck of time getting it to start. Right next to "instructions" should be "take test". I couldn't see it at all. I accidentally hit the link and was able to take the quiz. I can barely make out the words when I go back to the testing page now. Not sure what's going on.

Okay, it's working now.

Got two dumb ones wrong for working too fast and not reading the question correctly.

Fun quiz though.
