So, I took the day off today and decided to go to a Spring Training game at Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe.

1st off, there were 5 umpires at the plate meeting.  We were sitting all the way out in deep RF so it was hard to tell who was there.  I know Quinn Wolcott was on the dish and Kerwin Danley started the game at 1B.  The 5th umpire trotted out the bullpen gate before the first pitch.

Top of 4th inning, the base umpires rotated and the 2B umpire went out the gate and the other came in to take 1B.

This kept going every 3 innings.  It was apparent that there was a TV Trailer outside the gate that the extra umpire was going to.  7th inning, there was a replay challenge and then it all fell into place that the extra umpire was manning the replay.

Angels trying to turn 2 on a grounder and the F4 bobbled the turn.  Called out at the time.  2 minute replay delay, they overturned the call.  This stadium is old and does not have a jumbotron so I didn't get a look at the play.

Fun day at the ballpark!!

He didn't throw to 1B so it was just a force out then.

So a fielder who knows he bobbled it or was of the bag make a throw to first so it won't get reviewed?

1) That is not conclusive evidence IMO

2) WHY is MLB allowing Scioscia to come out after the review? What are they going to tell him?? "The review had him safe." So we add another minute delay while the umpires tell him the obvious!

I asked this where Gil posted this in his forum..........

The only thing I see that could lead to the reversal is that the ball comes out on its own, not with the throwing hand as it would if it was lost on the transfer.

Would have been nice to see some other angles, though, as they will have in a regular season game.

I don't like this reversal.    This could easily be a transfer issue.   I agree that there is not enough visual evidence to overturn (regardless of the original call).

First reversal, yuck.

Would be fantastic if MLB took a page from NHL and put out a replay comm to explain the decisions.

This is a great way to help ALL fans gain a better understanding of the rules and their interpretations.
