When I read the headline I thought, "Wow, that ball must have gone very sharp and very direct into Avila's glove.  Probably hurt his hand or something." 

 

Nope. Turns out foul tips can cause concussions!

Living in Metro Detroit, I've been hearing about the "foul tip to his mask" all day. I wince every time. It's a personal pet peeve.

Somehow, someway I was hit in the ear by a foul ball once. Didn't turn my head, just deflected off catcher batter home plate backstop. Well, you get the picture. Thought I was stung by a wasp or something until I noticed the blood dripping down my neck.
