I love Bucknor's timing and positioning on this play.  As he sees the collision coming he takes a few steps right and ends up 1BLX.

The timing is good but I don't like the positioning (he should start POP and move left, imo) and he never goes to 1BX which is what he should have done initially I think,

Not to nit a pick, but...voluntary release?

I thought so, he was showing the ball and I thought it was clearly well after he maintained control, completed the tag, demonstrated he had the ball, etc.

Able to voluntarily release, not necessary show it.  It's an out.

I'm fine with his positioning and his movement during the play.  He worked to get the best look, IMO.

For clarification, please discuss the legality/illegality of this collision play in other rule sets, ie.obstruction, interference, M/C, etc..

MC in FED and college (even if they don't call it that specifically)

It should be illegal in all amateur baseball, and one way or another result in an out and an ejection. MC supersedes obstruction.

I agree with maven. It's an out for MC in all amatuer baseball. With MC also comes an ejection. As for OBS, I would never have it on this type of play. Catcher positioned and in the act of recieving the throw

Johnny, I don't see any interference here, just a good old MLB mugging of a catcher. The poor kid forgot the number of outs for a second. And yes, this would be MC anywhere else, save for MLB.

Honestly, I'm not trying to nitpick, but a collision is a collision at MLB and I totally get that.  But the runner also grabs F2's chest protector.

Could you get interference for that?  Let's pretend that it was more obvious than what is apparent in this video.

I don't think you could get interference in this situation. Now, if a fielder was attempting to field a ball/throw and a runner grabbed their uniform and prevented a play, I could see it. But that's a different kettle of fish, relative to this sitch.

Make sense.
