Do any of you guys tell a coach where the pitch was when he asks? I had a coach asking after every other pitch and I told him I'd tell the catcher but I wasn't going to discuss it with him. He got mad and after the game til me I'd never call at that field again. Just wondering hat everyone's thoughts on this are.

I might at the beginning if he sounds like he really wants to know. if he is just chirping, no. If he persists, he gets told he isn't getting a running commentary on locations.

On the first one you tell him, maybe the second one but from the third one on, if the pitch is up I say down or if is inside I said is outside. If the coach is intelligent enough, he receive the message and stop asking, like what happened today to me in a Varsity game.

Don't play games with the coach, that will come back to get you.  Tell him the first few times, then just shut it down when he keeps asking.  Tell him you're not giving him a map all game, let's play ball.

I told him of he really wanted to know to ask his catcher. I wasn't going to give him my zone. His pitcher was horrible and his team lost 14-2 so he wasn't a happy camper and wanted something to blame it on.

I like the idea of playing games, but it'll bite you in the ass.

If he actually wants to know, I'll tell him.

If it gets old, I'll tell him to ask the catcher.

If it gets sarcastic, I'll give him a warning on arguing the zone.

LOL!!!   That missed the "strike" zone, so it must have been in the "ball" zone coach.

Heh heh..... ball zone!

First time he asks I answer by looking at him and giving a hand signal as to where it was. The second time, assuming it's fairly soon after, I'll lean in and tell the catcher to answer. Third time I just ignore him. If he gets loud or keeps asking then we go to the process for him arguing balls and strikes.

More and more it seems on upper levels PU will give location it missed at. <ego> I think know I have a great and conistent zone </ego> but IMO it's a bad idea. But you might want to consider doing it.

Never tell where the pitch was missed at unless I am talking to my catcher.  If the coach is sincere and asks I will tell him if it keeps up then I just tell him we are not discussing balls and strikes.

A good coach will ask you in between innings.

A good coach will have signals worked out with his catcher. They can see up and down so I only give inside and outside and usually 2 times per game is my limit. I like this comment. Mask off and say," I had a better look at the pitch than you coach. The ball is outside"'
