I was garbage last night.  Had the plate for a Babe Ruth game.  Felt like I struggled all night to see the ball and couldnt stay focused.  My partner said it looked fine and no complaints from either team.  Just one of those nights when I just felt uncomfortable.  I feel better now that I confessed.

To me it means that you're not satisfied and always feel you could be better.

Complacency is what makes good umpires bad.

Being here and sharing shows that you want to continue to improve, no matter how much experience you have.

I know I do!

I was similar Wednesday afternoon. Two very good JV teams, beautiful day, I was pretty excited for a good game. Both pitchers were throwing hard, but both were up in the zone all day. I'm calling strikes below the letters, but I'm hearing it from the benches and the crowd. Through the first 4 1/2 innings I though i was consistent. Now VT brings in a new F1 who's just at or blow the knees on every pitch. Now I'm calling strikes at the knees, balls below the knees and I feel I got a good grip on the zone.  But I'm hearing it  from all over. All in a day's work, until,  I completely missed a real nice 2-2 breaking ball that caught a good piece of the inside of the plate..and I balled it. Now I'm hearing it loud and clear from the stands. I guess I lost focus then. I wasn't tracking well after that, timing got fast, missed a few strikes, called a few strikes on pitches a little too high . I never felt so bad after a game. I wanted to apologize to the teams and coaches, but it didn't take me long to think better of doing something that foolish.

pregame with my partner, he said he didn't think my zone was bad at all, just a lot of chirpy fans and a frustrated coach who watched a 7 run lead disappear and lost 8-7 in 8. But inside, I know a lot of the chirps were legit. It seems like a got "caught" on every pitch I missed. Not a good feeling.

ready to head out now for another plate. Hope the tracking and judgement comes back to where I know it should be.
