I had my first baseball scrimmage of the year yesterday.  Cool & windy, but with enough sun to make it bearable.  I had the plate.

My partner calls me and says he will not be early due to the real job.  He actually gets there about the same time as I do.  He's got a passenger in the car that he never introduces to me.  We do our pre-game and then some as the visitor is coming from 50 miles away.  There is a noisy exhaust vent above where we park our cars.

We go over to the field, do our paperwork & wait for the visitors.  They show up about 15 minutes late and immediately go to their warmups, scrimmage starts about 30 minutes late.

Game goes smoothly, my zone was good.  We had a few rotations and I had 2 or 3 plays at the plate.  The only controversy was when F8 dropped a fly with R1 and threw him out at 2B.  My partner momentarily forgot about the force, but remembered very quickly and changed his call.  Coach went out to inquire, game continues.

It's now the last inning and my partners friend calls me over and says "your lights are on your car!"  I got 2 out and an ace F1, so I just say thanks and we finish the game.

We walk to the parking lot and I see my lights on and as we get closer I can see exhaust (it's now under 50 degrees).  WTF!

Yeah, I left my car running for 3+ hours from the time I pulled in to the parking spot.  I didn't hear anything because of the exhaust fan on the building.

Of course, I needed fuel when I was driving there but knew I would have time after the game...

Yes, I made it to the station.

This may the stupidest thing I have ever done concerning my car.  My wife chalks it up to my excitement over finally starting the season.

It could have always been much worse. You could have come back to an empty gas tank AND a dead battery!

If that's the case, there'd be another umpire on Arbiter's block list when I got home.

Funny you should mention that...as we were walking from the field, my partner was talking about having to run out due to an appointment. Yes, he stayed to make sure I had enough gas to get home. Larry Sansevere Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's one of my pet peeves. I hate it when a partner leaves before we're all ready to leave. I stay as long as it takes, and I expect my partner to do the same.

While I agree in general there are some guys who just want to sit out there for what seems like hours.  If your moving fast to get changed then I'll wait.  If your just d***ing around then I'll change and wait a reasonable amount of time and leave.

At least you didn't lock the car up with the motor running.

...And at least you got a game. I just got a call that today's game is canceled. I'm now 0-5. Today bothers me. :ranton: high 40's and sunny, hasn't rained since Tuesday and they call me 9am and say the field's unplayable.  . How about someone getting out there with a rake and shovel and making the damn field playable.  :rantoff:

Easier said than done at this time of budget cuts and staff shortages.
