This bizarre question is on my open book test

The ball remains alive when: *  A. the umpire considers the weather or ground conditions unfit for play
*  B. after 30 minutes he may declare the game ended
*  C. there is a medical emergency
*  D. a pitcher is unhappy with the calling of balls and strikes

I'm leaning C. Any ideas?

Thinking out loud (again)

A. HP declares field unfit - "Time!" Ummm..... No

B. After 30 minutes HP can call it (Ball is ALREADY dead, so...) No

C. Medical emergency - "Time! Someone call 9-1-1!"

D. F1 doesn't like the zone - Why would that in-and-of itself be reason to kill it?

Unless F1 (in D) warrants an EJ, WGAS what he thinks? I have, however, called time to address the issue or have F2 handle it while I clean the plate. This is definitely a :HS: question. I mean, WTH are they asking?

D is the only semi-logical answer.

I mean, what happens to the ball in A-C?

A. Does it go into PU's ball bag? Or into a dugout? Ball is dead either way. Not to mention you're calling time anyway.

B. When the game ends, the ball doesn't remain live... unless every ball ever used in every game is still alive and we're in the Twilight Zone? But I'd say that's doubtful. ;)

C. "Medical emergency" is wayyyy too broad and lengthy for me. If there is a runner that breaks his ankle rounding second, that ball will stay live while he is tagged out, but it'll be dead while the trainer and manager come out to get him off the field... Or are we talking very serious emergency, like a heart attack or collapse? Then I would kill the ball immediately.

In D, I'd say the ball should remain live unless the bitching and moaning becomes EJ-worthy.

We should have write in answers.  I would chose E.

E.  The person who wrote this test is an idiot.

It would be D.  For E you would have to call time to check to see if a medical emergency existed first right?

D is definitely the right answer. We get our Fed test results immediately after the test is taken.

It was on the list of potential questions for IHSA. Me and my friends narrowed it down to C and D, as you guys have but I have no idea what the question is really asking. I'm really hoping its not on the actual test. I was saying C was my choice because as long as the player isn't dyeing the ball would remain live.

Dumb question.  What they are getting it is the pitcher can argue all he wants but runners can advance.  Basically telling umpires to not call time to let a kid argue and look stupid.  Let the argument cost him some base runner movements, do not penalize the offense by calling time.
