Smitty Polo/MLB Blue

Just got an email reply from Ump-Attire stating that the planned intro of a true Polo blue from Smitty isn't going to happen.

Just wanted to pass it along, I ordered an Ultimate Polo Blue shirt instead. I have several of the Smitty's that I just bought for my new association and they seem like nice shirts, especially for the $18 each I paid for them.

Agree, I have a pretty strong dislike for the light blue. Black is my new favorite and luckily that is one of the association colors.

I wish my association would allow the black. It looks awesome. So for now, Im stuck in navy. Oh well.

I have always likes the Smitty Shirts and Pants. Fortunately our association doesn't care what color you wear as long as we match and we have the FHSAA Emblem on the shirt.

I guess I will stick with my TOC shirt. I just wont put anything in the pocket.

I would have been a good move for them, but in the High School Association that I work in it is not a big deal if one of us has on a Smitty Polo Blue and another has on a Honig's one. They also don't care about pants matching...i.e. heather vs. charcoal. I only have Charcoal pants (GD and Smitty) and they are no where close to the same color.

I like their shirts as well...for their pants...I like the construction, color, material...but HATE the fit. They are cut very slim in the seat and thigh...so much so I took their plate pants and hemmed them for bases as my backup pair. They were too slim for behind the plate and almost too slim for the field...much prefer the fit of Davis but don't like the flat color of their charcoal pants...

You must have gotten the first generation of the pants. According to multiple posts they have fixed those issues. The cut on my Smitty pants seems similar to the GD cut...I have the newest Smitty pants.

First/second whatever...purchased them 2 seasons ago and they are no where near as roomy as my Davis. Won't take a chance again....

i bought 4 smitty shirts last year and wore each one at least 40 times each and they held up awesome...they are one of the best if not best shirts i have ever bought.. they fit big and very comfortable..i had two ultimate shrts from ump attire and i wasnt impressed especially for the price...smittys is the best and i would rank honigs second....so i dont knoiw what happened to this guys smittys shirts but i can attest by the quality of the smitty shirts as well as their plate and combo pants

I wont buy any Smitty Product again after my incounter with their plate and base slacks last year....very poor materials with even worse construction. Not worth the discount.

I've had mixed results with Smitty products.

Ball Bags - I really didn't care for them mainly b/c the inside pockets were too deep.

Base & Plate pants bought in 09 - Okay, they fit well held up well seemed to resist fading. But the clasps broke in just a few months.

Base & Plate pants bought this year - Really like, I like the fit, I like the adjustable waistband and in wearing them in 4 scrimmages I think they are going to hold up well.

Shirts - Like they are second on my list to the Ump-Attire.com Ultimate Shirt.

I picked up my first Smitty shirt last week. I've only worn it twice, but so far so good.

I have both plate and base pants from Smitty. The plate pants are very roomy and I've got no complaints. I've had them for a year and probably worn them 60+ times with no issues. The base pants are supposed to be the same size, but I can hardly get them fastened. Other than the sizing discrepancy, I've had no issues with them either.

Overall, I don't have any complaints with Smitty. I'm disappointed they're not making the Polo Blue shirt to match; I was looking to pick one up when it came out...

I got the Smitty plate and base pants last year, no real complaints in any way and they held up well through about 120 games, they still look good and will be used again this year as backups (got a new set this season to account for the 35 lbs. I've lost since last summer).Decided to give the shirts a try this year and through 2 scrimmages all is good so far. My Ultimate Polo Blue should arrive today, we'll see what makes it $15 better than the Smitty shirts.

OK, so my Ultimate arrived yesterday. Definitely nicer than the Smitty shirt - the fabric is lighter weight, has a very high-quality feel to it with a very smooth/silky finish. Construction appears to be top-notch as well, although I have no issue with the construction of the Smitty shirts thus far. Collars seem a bit nicer on the UA shirt, the Smitty ones are just a bit big and floppy.

If I were just looking to buy one shirt, I may overlook the almost doubling of price and get the UA. If I was faced with my scenario this year where I am buying 4-5 shirts, it sure is hard to overlook the value of the Smitty shirts. I can buy 9 Smitty shirts for the price of 5 UA shirts and have a few dollars leftover.

My point was going to be (assuming those were imported) is that the Ultimate shirts are made in the USA. Jim charges $32 and Honig's charges $28 and the Smitty shirts @ UA are $23. For only $4, thats a significant difference and I can almost guarantee that Jim's margins on those Ultimate shirts are less than Honig's margins on their new Prosoft made in China shirts. I like the quality and I wear shirts for YEARS so I would rather spend $4 more for the Ultimate shirt.

I would argue the same thing for the less expensive Smitty shirts. Sure they are cheaper than the Ultimate shirts. But I would rather spend the $ at Ump-Attire and purchase their shirts because its important to patronize businesses with whom you agree. I like their approach and how they do business. A lot of quality in these things have fallen very very very far in the last few years and when somebody like Jim is a stickler on quality, I think its important to vote with your dollars for those products. Sure they will cost more. But in the grand scheme of things its not that much and I would rather have a product I am happy with for a long period of time.

I'm tempted to buy one in my quest for the "Best Shirt Ever!" So far I've had Dalco, Smitty, Teamwork, old Honig's, Majestic, and Inhouse. Suprising, I think I like the lone Letrell shirt better than the rest.
