When will MLB stop the lunacy of letting benches empty every time there's an altercation? Nothing looks more bushleague than a bunch of guys on a field jawing at each other and 15 more guys running towards the pack from the bullpens. Time to put in a rule and eject for coming off the bench..Geez, If they've got it in hockey.....

hockey? Nba? They have it in HSV BASEBALL! I like an occasional Ryan/Ventura bench clearing tornado, but there hasn't been a good one for quite awhile.

Nothing wrong with a good Ventura/Ryan brawl. But do we need 50+ people running onto the field when it happens?

I just wonder why Quirk (Cubs 3rd base coach) was ejected for jawing at Porter but Porter was not ejected for leaving the 3rd base coaches box and going to the top step of the Cubs dugout barking back.

Quirk probably should have been ejected (not sure what he said, but I'll imagine it warranted the ej) but Porter absolutely should have been if you're dumping Quirk, in my opinion.

The fracas was started because all that stuff happened and that was instigated by Quirk screaming out at Porter. And the obscenities that he screamed out I just felt was inappropriate and that’s what caused everything.â€

Porter was ordered to stay in the third-base coaching box the rest of the game but avoided ejection.

“(Porter) got very close to being out of order himself,†Lane said. “Had he got into the dugout and started a fracas, he would have been ejected. But I thought this was all stemming from what Jamie Quirk did and he started it, so I got the person that started it.â€

The Nats (up 7 - 2 at the time) stole 2 bases off of a journeyman relief pitcher. Then, with the bases loaded, Jayson Werth swung at and fouled off a pitch with the count 3 - 0. I guess Quirk felt like the Nats should have been taking it a little easier on them.

I'm totally on board with Quirk being ejected (even as a Cubs fan ) However, we're really going to just tell Porter not to leave the coaches box and call it good? He was on his way down the steps till Sveum stepped in.

Oh, and my Cubs BLOW this year.

I don't know why we call them brawls anymore. It is one or two guys fighting with a few peacemakers and 40-45+ other guys standing around, maybe shouting a little, but not an all out brawl where guys are matching up and going at each other.

Yeah, there ought to be a rule that says if you come on the field and just stand there your gone. There has to be a punch thrown if your gonna come out.

Nevermind, then they would have to define a punch in 2.00.
