use of histrionic gestures

Here is the use of histrionic gestures (i.e., jumping up and down, violently waving arms or demonstrations) while arguing with the umpire are grounds for ejection.

Well guess what happened.

Although I think the play was called correctly, at 1:12 of this play is where you can look at the play unfolding.

The PU goes straight back all the way into the grass for the point position almost touching the tip of the artwork behind home plate. The runner has tagged and is almost 1/2 way home, now the umpire tries to start getting to the 3rd baseline extending in time to be set for the play. At 1:20 he is still on the move as the runner is getting ready to hit the dirt at 1:21 and the tag at 1:22 and again at 1:34. Just looks like he dropped a little to deep to get completely set at 3BLE. That deep on a 2 man or 3 man may be justified since the plate umpire has the tag at 3rd, but in a 4 man the 3BU has the tag. Either way, as soon as the runner takes off the PU has to get on his horse for the play at 3BLE from a deep point position. Just IMHO which is why he is there and I am stuck watching replays and reading as much as I can for my backyard whiffle ball games.

I guess at least the mask wasn't thrown at the umpire this time. He learned that much from the offseason.

Now, I suppose he went that far back to get a view of the runner, F2, and the throw. Then, decided there would be a play and decided to walk into position. Even in a 4 man, I'd be OK with him getting deep to read everything and decide where he needs to be on the play. But, the walking is uncalled for. Even if he did get the call correct, his mechanics looked lazy. He was not set. He was walking to his position. And, he wasn't in proper position at the moment the play occurred.

I know who the PU is and Finn would probably love to comment on this.

I'm not saying the call wasn't correct or not, but to be honest, I didnt' see anything conclusive because you can't see the tag

I did but I wasn't sure if he did that during the play or immediately after the tag. Also, I wasn't sure if he had it in his hand while in the glove or if he touched the runner at all with the ball in his hand. Nothing conclusive about these angles to say the call was right or not. But, aside from if he got it right or not, everything looked bad due to the walking and still moving while the play was occurring.

I watched this game live and while the announcers were very milk toast, I remember they even after watching in in HD Slo-mo they half way gave credit to McClelland by saying after looking at it in HD Slo Mo they couldn't say for sure if McClelland missed the call.

Nothing like a back handed complement but what do we expect from announcers.
