Batting out of order

Friend came to me with this question and asked what I would do in this situation. I am curious what others have to say on the issue. They were in a tournament and had the wrong guy at the plate. 4 and 5 batter some how switched places. Well my friends son's coach notices this and is trying to verify with his scorekeeper. The other team sees this and tells the ump to put the batter on when he had an 0-2 count with 2 outs in the inning. Once the batter took first they appealed BOO and got the out. What would you do in this situation?

If the correct batter was put in during the at bat. Then Play on. Nothing to appeal.

On Edit: I skimmed over the part about putting the runner on and got to first.

Go with whoever gets their request to you first. If the defense asks for an intentional base on balls before offense tries to change batters, if allowed by rules, give it to them. This is a legal way to get BOO (although some would argue it is bush). Once you declare the intentional walk, batter has become a runner. Offense was caught sleeping, tough beans.

the had not gotten the correct batter tothe plate when they said put him on so in fact it was the 5 hitter when it should have been the 4 hitter.

Did the O manager request TIME at any point, to talk to the PU?

There are only a few rulesets that allow the runner to be waived to first, with pitches being thrown. So, what rules were you playing under?

As written, it sounds like the head coach for the offense was conferring with his own scorekeeper, not the umpire. If the coaches for the defense picked up on this and the rule set allows for an intentional walk without a pitch being thrown, then I am going to make the award and then get the out. Sounds like B5 is back up to bat.

Doesn't seem all that dirty, unless the OC asked for time or somehow made the PU aware that they were trying to correct a situation. If not and the other team made the Int Walk request first, tough crap. They'd get no extra rope, they're the ones who sent the wrong batter up.

On the subject of batting out of order under Fed rules any outs stand, but how about under OBR? I thought maybe same, but I understand there is a quiz question in Referee magazine that says any play is nullified and runners are put back to base at TOP. If so, does anyone have a rule reference besides 6.07 which isn't clear to me on this issue.

In pro and college, the entire play, including outs and advancements is negated and the one who should have batted is out.

Only in HS do any outs made on the play stand but any runners not out return.
