LL Minors (9/10YO)... Just stopped pouring raining and both me and my partner are freezing cold...

Pitcher throws a ball... F2 throw back goes over F1 head into CF... F8 over F1 to F2... F2 over F1 to F4... F4 over F1 to F2... F2 over F1 to F6... F6 over F1 to F2... F2 walks to the pitcher and spikes it into his glove.

If you're keeping track at home that is 1-2-8-2-4-2-6-2-1 on a single pitch.

Same game, HT is up 5 and there is a 5 run limit per inning. First pitcher gives up a run and loads the bases... New Pitcher walks four in a row to tie the game... HT won in the next inning.

All I can say is get out of youth ball, in my humble opinion anything lower than 12u is not worth it.

I hear ya. I'm trying to, and I agree... It's weird how these players/teams turn from awful to decent when they turn from 10 to 11YO...

Unless they are paying $40 a game and lots of them don't go much past and 1 1/2 hrs due to run rules. Plus, as we have seen, they can be very entertaining. How about the dropped IFF? Now that's fun.

Again, penalizing teams for being good.

Why keep score at all?

I gotta hand it to our umpire brothers who work a lot of youth baseball. I am not cut out for it.

Tip of the 6 stitch to ya.

I rarely call the IFF below 12u... If no one has made a catch all game, how can I determine something to be an "easily caught pop up"? Nothing is "easily caught" at that level.

I waffle on the little dudes on whether IFF should apply. Part of me thinks that they should modify FO 10 and under so that (1) no IFF, but (2) no DP may occur on what would have been an IFF -- make the kids catch the ball. But then I think how hard it is to explain to some people what an IFF is (Coach last night in a Bronco (12u) questioned no IFF w/ runners at the corners . . .), and I can't imagine trying to explain an alteration to the IFF rule . . .

Call IFF at the little kids. It teaches the rule to both the coaches and kids, plus you get a free out. Something that can be precious sometimes in minors.

+1. Sometimes you really need that out.

I was watching highlights of the Phillies and I think the Mets. Phillies had R1 and R2 and batter hit high pop to F4. F4 drops the ball and as soon as it hit the ground both runners took off thinking they were forced. F4 picks up the ball and throws to F6 who is standing on 2B and R1 runs to and touches the bag and fielder never attempted to tag him because he thought it was a force. When the umpire calls him safe both teams players have a WTF look on thier faces. So it confuses the big guys too sometimes.

Call the IFF at the lower age groups. As previously mentioned, kids need to learn and play by the rule and it's our job to ensure the game is played within the rules, not selectively apply them. 9-10 yo coaches don't always know the rules, but when you get one that does he will call you out (or report it to your assignor) on an IFF if you let one go.

I was evaluating a young up and comer the other night and the IFF occurred twice. He called it correctly and of course both were dropped after the fact. The "free out(s)" kept the game moving along.
