Just another day butchering rules at the ol' ballpark for the talking heads I see. It is interesting that no more do we talk about the ball breaking the front plane of the bag v. the back and then we have a video where it happens.

Has nothing to do with the chalk in front of the bag. If there was a piece of plexiglass right at the bag extending upward, would the ball have hit the plexiglass even just nipping it or ticking it like a foul tip. If yes, fair, if not foul. Just like a slider or old sweeping curve-ball barely getting the outside corner of the plate. If yes, strike, if no ball.

Looks like Barksdale is in the best position possible considering he needed to peek around Gonzales without giving up the line. From this position (head positioned a foot or so in foul territory), he obviously had some part of the ball crossing some part of the bag.
