This was in the MO 9u AA State tourny last weekend.

Home team is up to bat. Ground ball to F9. He is playing shallow and has a play on B/R. He makes the throw and F3 stretches to get it. My partner calls him out. I'm trailing the runner and I have an absolute crap angle on whether or not F3 pulled his foot (F3 was on the outfield side of the bag). Home team goes crazy saying that F3 pulled his foot. Partner doesn't ask for help. First base coach starts pointing at the base (should have been an EJ right there) making a scene.

Play on.

A couple of close plays at second and another play similar to the one mentioned above happen. Home team is getting uneasy. My partner has had two or three chances to get an EJ. But he chooses not to.

R2, ground ball to F6. R2 going to third, seeing that F6 is fielding a ground ball R2 attempts to go around F6. However,F6 fields the ball before R2 passes by him, F6 attempts to put a tag on R2 but misses as R2 is now passed F6. I got nothin', BU has nothin', play on.

The home team goes to BU and asks him to ask for help. BU comes and talks to me and i say that I saw F6 field the ball without interference from R2. I have no interference on R2, and I saw no tag. BU tells me that's what he saw too. BU gives the safe sign and we play on.

Home team gets stupid. They claim they want to see the Tournament Director  I come out and say that isn't going to happen, it's a judgment call, we play. I put on my mask, I get behind F2, I point and yell "play".

I then hear "that's terrible! you guys are awful, that's three you've missed! you don't deserve to be at state!"

Whooooosh! Mr. Wilson comes off. I point at the RAT assistant coach and bring the thunder from down under.

:smachhead:

Home team wins but they give up too many runs and don't make it to bracket play. Baseball karma catches up with me and the next three games that day all finish in under 1:30. We had great pitching and stellar defense.

I wasn't too happy though. I had gone a full three years without dumping a coach, but I couldn't just let that one go.

Dumping a coach isn't supposed to make you happy: you'll spend some time thinking, "Why did he make me do that". However, the more times that you're forced to EJ people, the shorter that time becomes. Personally, I'm at 4.3 seconds.

..good toss....

I think jjb almost nailed this with his "Why did he make me do that?" remark. All you did was confirm his willingness & desire to no longer participate in that game. You didn't eject him, you just confirmed it for him.

First, ... Why didn't the Bu see the pulled foot, ...should he not have been between first and second during the 'pivot' move ?? If so ....he 'should' have (if I'm not mistaken) had a good view, yes?

Brandon, ...eventually the EJ was founded, however, ....the above scenario (for me) is the furthest thing from an EJ sitch. Pointing at the base (whether making a scene or not) isn't worth of an EJ ...especially if he saw a pulled foot...like he 'claimed' ....

Sometimes you've got to look at a situation as if YOU were coaching, etc....let them vent a little ....if he continues , warn him, if he gets obstinant, toss him!:rollinglaugh:

Eventually, ...he did it all himself though....

I totally agree with Thunderheads, if he questions the pulled foot, that's fine as long as it is brief or at the minimum, he shuts down when being shut down. When they ask for the tourney director, I know that's enough for some, but at a state tourney it probably isn't enough for me (as they shut up as they shut up as soon as you say "judgment call"). Once that comment comes out though, I'm looking for a reason as that is really pushing their luck.

"You're terrible" is automatic with or without any lead up to it and the coach probably knew it too. You don't say something like that without expecting to get hooked and if you don't hook him in that situation, it's gonna be a real long day...

So good toss and you handled it well.

Thunderheads,

We talked about it between innings. At the time he said that the pulled foot was close. He said he saw a stretch, catch, then the pulled foot. He said he had the foot on there long enough. :D I don't know, I couldn't see it as it was on the opposite site of the bag. I even gave it a lean and a look but still I was blocked.

The first base coach starting hopping up and down yelling and screaming. He then went towards BU doing the same thing. He then got down on one knee and starting telling BU how far the F3 was off. That's the "scene" he made. I'll let a coach vent. Hell, if he wanted to call time to do it, fine by me. But the first base coach is the absolute last person I'm going to let show me up like that. If I were BU, I would have whipped out my "That's enough" card ricky tick. But that's just my opinion. We all differ in that respect. I certainly appreciate the feedback though :rollinglaugh:

Yeah, you probably don't want to do that in the future. After any sort of sticky call, you don't want to be talking to each on the turn overs for a couple of innings. No need to fan the flames.

Enough said. It's amazing how many of these type stories we hear and most of them have the same "common denominator" - "kiddie ball"

Here is a hint to all you Rats out there:

Don't Count Calls.

Nothing is going to get you dumped faster then "That is two you missed" or "Three times you've missed one". I don't count how many times you have done a dumb coaching move(and Let's be honest guys, their dumb coaching moves way out number our "bad calls")
