I just purchased two fitted caps but they were slightly big when I tried them on but not large enough to warrant sizing down. Would love to hear suggestions on shrinking them down to fit a little more snug. Someone mentioned sewing some sort of material in the band to tighten it a bit but wasn't sure if anyone had done that here.

This has been a concern of fitted caps even in the same batch my 7.5 head fits differently in different caps sized 7.5.

I have seen something once you can place in the sweatband of a fitted cap, I don't know how well it works, but it's out there. Richardson's are wool blend caps so you may be able to shrink them.

I usually am a 7 3/8 fitted. However, ....a 7 3/8 Richardson is loose, and I actually get a 7 1/4 for plate, and just get the flexfit for bases (no, not mesh :) ) ......

Thunder...have you noticed if flexfit wools are "hotter" than fitted wool?

I actually had to think about for a minute! :smachhead:

The reason I ask is...I have had mesh in the past and they didn't seem to be any cooler than my wool. Except for one...it's not an "umpire" cap, just an Outdoor Cap brand black mesh...it's cool when I'm on the bases,

Shrink to fit. Slosh it around in some just-boiled water (keep the bill out of the water); dry in the sun (very easy), or with a blow-dryer like John suggested (very time consuming), or in a 200 degree oven (the best way, but it must be monitored).

They shrink up nicely.

No sir! No difference at all!

Let's face it .....black and navy are black and navy, ...especially sitting on the TOP of your dome ......they're hot! :)

I just did this tonight --- sloshed the hats in just boiled water, dried them in an oven set to 200 degrees, monitored.  I stopped when they were almost completely dry, no longer steaming.  I did two hats at the same time (Navy and Black).  The drying took about 45 minutes.

Now they fit nice and snug.  These are Richardson 540 fitted hats.

Note, you can keep the bill out of the water, of course, but water does wick onto the material on the bill.

I had the same problem, when I tried them on I had to drop down a size also. some other brands like OC that they had in stock, ran true to size.  OC= Outdoor Caps
