Ok all, ...the World Series is upon us, ......and the crew has been announced.

As we all know, ...there's usually SOMETHING that happens thats controversial, missed, right, wrong, etc, etc, etc, when it comes to the umpires, ...we've seen it year after year. So , I was thinking ....

Just for fun, ....since we know who the crew is ..... let's see if we can guess who will be in the spotlight first, or the most?

CAVEAT: I'm not wishing anything bad on anyone, as a matter of fact, ...I'd love it for the umpires to be absolutely stellar and have a great series!

Like I said though, ...there's ALWAYS something that happens in the World Series ......(usually).....

So, who gets the spotlight??

I am out of this.. tow of the Umpires were my instructors at School.. I don't wish nothing happens to any of them, and I don't want to bet on it.

Mike, ...did you read what I wrote? Caveat and all?

That said though, ...I understand your situation! :)

On the other hand....spotlight doesn't NECESSARILY mean it was bad, or wrong ??? Correct?

Layne CC

Gibson

Marquez

Kulpa

Barrett

Cederstrom

I had Layne and Cederstrom as instructors, and like Mazz, you feel a certain kinship once you see the guy in that setting. Cederstrom's a gas. I have never (or seldom) seen a more enthusiastic guy as a professional umpire (Frank Pulli or Eric Gregg, perhaps). Gibson and Marquez are among my favorite plate guys, and Gibson is definitely one of my favorites at handling a dispute. I almost want to see him get in one to watch him handle it.

This is a tough one, especially since I never really bet on anything since I won five bucks from my sixth grade teacher on the 1968 World Series (thank you, Mickey Lolich!). But I'll take Kulpa. What the hell.

I won't guess who but I will guess what. With the power of these two teams there is a great chance for some sort of HR, fair/foul, GRD spectator INT type call on a dinger. Also it wouldn't surprise me if some pitching warnings don't get issued. Just a couple of guesses.

That's another good way of looking at it, ...and ....this is also what I was referring to ....nice addition, thanks!:Cool2:

Well according to FOX's night vision infrared camera, Jerry Layne just missed the seam on the ball graze the tip of Beltre's shoe.

Now what the [heck] was that?

Can we please just $h!t-can the infrared before we get swallowed by all this technology?

Is this still baseball?

Can FOX just please go away?

Is Rupert Murdoch dead yet?

Am I asking too much?

I certainly think it is the dumbest idea in TV coverage. My son walked in when they were showing an infrared shot late in the game. All he said was, WTF, infrared, what's that supposed to be for?

I didn't really get what the infrared camera was supposed to add. Who comes up with this stuff?

If you want to make baseball more interesting on TV, stop zooming in on everyone's face and show the runners. Don't give us infrared replay.

This is the play, they cut to infrared for a couple of the replays.

What do they teach at the schools and at the final PBUC for the 50 students picked on this call.

When did this become a huddle up call. Are they getting the opinion of the 2nd base umpire when he is in the outfield now along with the foul line guys or what?

Seems like I keep reading where they teach that the base umpires are to call this play if they see the ball hit the foot, when the plate umpire does not see it, end of story. I was thinking the 2nd base umpire would only call that if he was positioned inside.

This is not like a check swing where you point for help to the respective umpire.

If the manager asks, you tell him you as the plate umpire that you have nothing, and since the base umpires did not signal that it hit his foot either, then we have nothing, end of discussion or the start of a possible heated discussion and maybe a possible ejection. I can actually see the manager only asking that you, (PU), check for polish on the ball as a possibility of getting your guy on first with a HBP, not by having a huddle discussion on what everyone saw.

So, has this changed to a huddle up call?

And???, who call the trap at third early in the game. Could not see any umpires making any calls from the TV view. What did that play show on the wide screen. Did Kulpa call it or did Layne call it no catch. My bulb's and fuse's TV is very fuzzy and it is hard to see with the tiny picture.

Dumbdumb, they are teaching that if that PU doesn't see this, to kill it right away, but the BU better be 100% sure, but the manager can come out to get the PU ruling on the play, and what you said is nothing wrong, ( telling the coach that if the ball hit the players foot some one would have killed it)... I thought it was handled correctly.. heck even with the infrared we are still not a 100% sure it hit his foot.

I'm glad I DV recorded the game so I could replay this call. After 17 infrared replays on my 46-inch high definition screen, using a magnifying glass, it appeared that four of the stitches on the baseball actually nicked the tip of the sole of Beltre's shoe, and then broke apart this dirt clog and rolled to the third baseman. Obvious foul. I can't believe nobody saw it or heard it.
