Who's on third?

I had a situation come up today in a JV game. FED game, but would be interested in hearing college & OBR.

R1, outs doesn't matter.

R1 is stealing on the pitch, F2's throw goes into CF. Who is taking the play at third, PU or U1? Fortunately for us, there was no play, we did not cover in pre-game, nor did we really cover the play.

My partner was a cadet, so I take the blame for any perceived error.:smachhead:

As others have said, BU has runner to 3B in this situation. I pre-game it this way, when I'm PU: "With runner on first or first and third, I'll cover third on any base hit to the outfield."

I have never pregamed this situation and have never had an issue with it. But, seeing it may be an issue, I may want to start doing it.

BU takes the runner. Anytime there is only one runner in the situation, BU takes the runner. I can't think of a time where the BU doesn't take the runner all the way to 3B except going out on a fly ball from A position.

Is there an exception I am missing?

Note he said one runner. This takes away the "R1 with base hit" situation.

Nothing shows hustle better than a BU taking the runner to third on a triple. Why wouldn't he take him to third? He's got nothing else to do on this play!

FED mechanic has the PU taking the BR into third on the triple. U1 rotates to home for any play there. NJ uses FED mechanics for FED ball.
