I took Pete's advice over at MidwestUmp about purchasing a belt form Atlantic Uniform. It was Almost $9 with free shipping. The belt I had previously has was showing a little wear so I figured that it may be time for a back up. I'm not a belt expert but this garrison belt looks pretty nice. It's 100% leather and fills out my Gerry Davis pants quite well. I bout the 1 3/4" version but I think there is a 1 1/2" you can buy as well. I'm not sure what else you can say about a belt. It holds my pants and my ball bags up with no problem. For $9, it's hard to go wrong.

I have a flat leather belt and a patent leather garrison belt in my main equipment bag. I try to wear the patent leather finish if that's what my partner has. I also carry a flat-finish belt in my field gear bag that I bring to my base games.

But this winter, we had a three-man scrimmage game, and I carried only my base gear (a smaller bag). However, I had taken the advice of a colleague and put my belt on my slacks hanger. Well, of course, the first game out after changing my system, I grabbed a different pair of slacks, and went to the ballpark without a belt! So, we had to wear jackets--untucked--to accommodate me and my no-belt situation. It was about 75 degrees for most of the game, and I was not comfortable in a jacket. My base partner saw to it that I was made even less comfortable.

I went home and immediately ordered two of those $17.95 plus shipping belts, so that from then on I'd have a belt in the car, a belt in the big gear bag, a belt in the little bag, a belt in the back-up bag and a belt in the main garment bag. (You know)

I wish I had known about this deal a little sooner, because it looks like the same belt.

Guys, quickly...

justa tad off-topic, but .... the Smitty flex-fit pants, ..will they accommodate a 1.75" belt, or the 1.5"? I haven't measured yet, but the time has come for the belt and I was wondering if you knew?

Thanks....

They have those thin belt loops, but I think they handle a 1.75-incher.

Thanks .....I see, ...."thin" meaning, the fabric is thin on the loop, ....not necessarily "narrow" allowing for width...

ok, what did I just say?:wow:

^^^ Indeed ^^^

I have a hard time believing that there are umpire pants that won't accomedate these belts.

The only reason I didn't buy Smitty pants and chose the Gerry Davis pants was because of the narrow belt loops. I thought the Gerry Davis loops looked better.

Picky much? :wow:

I don't like that about them, either. But I love everything else about these pants. The color is great, they don't fade, and they are very comfortable. I am going to ask Jim if he can talk to Smitty about the belt loops and see if he can make the fabric wider like the GD's. If they do that, they will have the perfect pant.

And yes, the openings on the loops are plenty wide enough to accomodate a 1 3/4" belt.

I measured last night, and they "could" handle a 2" belt, so....me's gonna order me one too! :rollinglaugh:

Yeah I was being very picky when I said that about the Smitty Pants. I've seen them and even tried them on. Nothin' bad to say about the pants... just the belt loops :rollinglaugh:

...and nobody around here has Smitty, just the Gerry Davis.

You won't be upset with the belt purchase. Just keep reminding yourself that it cost $9

Absolutely!:rollinglaugh: I haven't ordered it yet, but really...no shipping?

Got mine from www.postaluniform.com after I had a problem with my Atlantic order. At the time it was $7.50 with free shipping. Now, they're $8.75 too, but the belt's great. If you have a problem with Atlantic, try this one.

And you be sure to tell 'em Cliff Clavin sent ya.

“Well, ya see, Norm, it’s like this… A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it’s the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first.

This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first.

In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That’s why you always feel smarter after a few beers.”

To follow up on the belt purchase: It's a good belt, and is every bit as high quality as the ones that sell for twice the price elsewhere. I got two, shipped free, and trouble-free. It's a solid deal. Too bad it's only a belt.

The definitive question is this:

Is it sturdy enough to hold up one of those mask hooks?

I'll have to ask my assignor to put me with the Mask Hook guy, so that I can test it. He's not on my schedule as yet.

In fact, I'm going to have my son video part of the game so that you guys will believe that the guy actually exists and actually is one of the dozen or so Mask Hook owners to be found in North America.

I'd like to see that.
