Someone mentioned in another thread (mine ... "this can't be right"....in the equipment forum) that it could have been a static charge, etc ....

Let's face it, .... a baseball (leather) can't cause "sparks" ...

Unless, ...maybe, .... Benoit had just used rosin, ...and the particulate from that and the ball hit the mask just right to cause it?

I have seen titanium golf clubs (drivers especially) give off sparks when they are swept across the ground on a swing. I don't know if this is related at all, but I would hardly call that a sweeping blow!
