Just one more RBK thread?

Ok I know there are a fair amount of Reebok plate shoe threads on this forum and I don't mean to clutter this place with even more, but:

I need to upgrade from my old Spot Built mids. I loved them, there were great when I got them, but they're just too worn out and too heavy.

So, I'm trying to decide between the NB 450 and the RBKs. I see all the rave that's going on about the Reeboks, and the fact they have spikes on the bottom is a real plus for me. (Plus I think they look awesome). But the one thing holding me back is another pair of Reebok shoes I use for basketball. They aren't the most comfortable thing in the world, and at the end of the day of doing 4 games, my feet hurt. I am wondering if these are just a bad model or if Reebok shoes just don't fit me feet.

Has anybody else had this problem? I want the Reeboks (both plate and field), but I don't want them if at the end of the weekend, I feel pain in my feet.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I just ordered both the plate and the base shoes, and have had them for a few weeks now. I cannot speak from field experience, but I do wear them around the house a little bit, just trying to break them in. While I was getting my mom to hem my new plate pants for me, I had my plate shoes on the entire time. It was for about 3 hours. Not that my mom doesn't know what she is doing, I am just a picky person and we ended up redoing them about 3-4 times! Anyways, the shoes were hurting my feet while I had them on for the brief time.

Also, when I attended an umpire clinic last weekend, I wore my base shoes while we were inside. We were not doing much, but after a while they started to hurt my feet.

I strongly (hopefully) believe this is because they are new and I do understand that there is going to be a break-in time period. This is why I'm wearing them now and trying to break them in a little before the season gets going full speed. If you're not in any hurry, I'll let you guys know how they feel after a few games. I know there are others on the board that have them, they may can help you a little more. As I said, I am just speaking of their comfort straight out of the box. Hope this helps, but also hope this doesn't discourage you getting them, as they are great looking shoes!

That's a lot of games..So let me try and do some calculations on this. The ball season in Ontario does not get going until mid May and usually wraps up by Labour Day. So even if I gave you all of May, June July, August and September..that's 20 weeks or 140 days. So taking into account rain outs..I'm going to knock 10 days off that so you are down to 130 days. Now I know you had to do some base work so I'm going to add 20 games to that total so you did approx 122 games in 130 days. Obviously no GF, Wife or life..LOL How did you avoid burnout?

I have found that the plate shoes are very comfortable and do not hurt my feet at all. However, while the base shoes are much more comfortable than the NB 995s, I find they hurt my feet if I wear them for a long period of time.

I appreciate your feedback James. I hope the Reebok shies I have now are just in the breaking in period. I won't be buying any shoes til about mid march so maybe you could give me an update? I would be very appreciative.

I know one day I will have to cut back how many games I work, but until that comes, you will see me out on that field as often as I can get out there. It's a passion, and I can't imagine where I would be without it.

One day you'll also want to start cutting back on the carbs.... but that's years away. :rollinglaugh:

First, let me say I got a good laugh out of the posts I read since I was last here.

Second, at the risk of bragging, I worked 198, far more than 130, games in 2009.

I do not doubt you.

Since getting back on the field on the last day of August 2009, I begged, scratched and hunted down 52 games in the last 4 months of the year. I did have 6 rainouts in one weekend in Dec. I could have had 58 with those games. Those are all off season fall ball games also. Just at that rate, I would work 174 games in a year.

The hard work and making contacts is paying off.

I have worked 10 games in Jan and had another 5 rained out.

I already have 13 assignments for February not to include High School Scrimmages on the last Sat of Feb and a 3 day tournament coming up on Presidents Day Weekend.

Also been invited to work a 21 week Adult Ball Season with 2 games min on Sundays starting Mar 7. So that is another 42 plus playoffs in the pipe. It is also the highest paying league I am aware of and when the assignor asked if I wanted to work them, he didn't finish before I said yes.

That is like 58 games in the pipeline already without any HS, PONY or LL assignments yet. So even without those I am over 80 games pretty much locked up already through June.

I think that I will be able to reach around 200 games before 2010 is up.

Yes I do have a GF

She wants me to work games as she knows that is when I am the happiest and she knows she always gets her cut when the money comes in or reaps the rewards.

Unlike a lot of guys, I also don't have to worry about work anymore.

Wish I had more games as retirement can sure be boring at times. and I have always hated sitting around. In fact today is the anniversary of my first year of retirement.

While you are 19 years old and fit enough to work that load, watch out, :FIRE:this real soon to be 55 year old man might run you over if you miss a step.

I also recommend you keep that workout routine going.

Always stay active.

My past athletic experience in baseball, softball, football, marathons and triathlons did take some toll on my body, but it also has kept me at 5 foot 9 with a 33 inch waist and a prime 165 pounds.

Don't have any other dream except to stay active doing games and to hopefully get into college ball when possible and work that for two to three years at least.

So don't slow down, don't slip or stumble or that sensation you will be felling on your back is me running you over.:D

Does Reebok make a mid cut base shoe? I had thoughts of the low cut but my ankles couldnt take it and I really wanted to give a go at the 3n2 shoes but they too are low cut. So it looks like its the NB995s for me unless I can find a mid cut Reebok.

Reebok does not make a mid base shoe. I want to say that were originally offered, and we placed an order from them then Reebok felt there were not enough collective purchases of them to make and have available.

If you were set on a Reebok product in a mid, you could consider going with the NFLQuag shoe:

A good idea. Do those come in a mid or just a low as well. If not then looks like its the 995s for me (unless you think the ankle support on the 3n2 shoes might be enough... I kind of like those). Especially since I wear a wide shoe. Thinking of the size 12 EE NB995s. Got those in stock?

Both mid and low in those NFL Quags. On your other question, you'll get more ankle support out of the NB995s compared to low top 3N2s. Should have good stock on most sizes of New Balance in any style/size. Website is almost always accurate there. Hope that helps.

Creme is really popular around here (KC, MO). Gray is also becoming really popular.

I have the navy shirt and can't say enough good things about it. I would really like to complete the collection of UUS. Maybe some long sleeves?

They are hard to find, but I do have a pair of the RBk Field Magistrate II in mid cut. I got them online from Dick's sporting good's. I hunted and found a 25% off coupon online as well.

I have worn my pair from Dick's once so far in a scrimmage and liked them. I am switching from an older pair of rebook base shoes. they seem to have pretty good ankle support.

The NFL Quaq shoes are the same thing as the Magistrates except the logo on the heel is an MLB logo on the baseball shoes and a REEBOK logo on the football shoes.

Please do what you can to make gray take off as the alternate warm-weather color. (The one with the wide trim stripe like they wore in MLB a few years back.)

I'm not the biggest fan of the color, it's just that there are some that are. And AFA uses (or used to) gray and I have worked some AFA games in the past.

It gets over 100 degrees here fairly often from May to September. I wear powder only when required to by a plate guy who has no other warm-weather color. I wear gray as warm-weather alternate No. 1, polo blue as No. 2 and cream (which is disappearing) as No. 3.

I prefer all three to powder and I just like gray the best. And there are several guys around here who agree, and we wind up wearing it fairly often. And I have extras for when someone wants to wear it, but doesn't have one.

hmm..

if it get above 85, it's pretty much a rule that we break out the creams haha. I don't like the cream myself but I'd catch hell if I didn't have one.
