West Vest Platinum

I've worn both (Had the Platinum, now have the Gold) and have never had any difficulty moving my arms to do anything James describes. I can remove my mask without having to move my head, and I only put the count at chest level as it is.

Very weird indeed.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on how the Gold compares with the Platinum.

I wore a friends Platinum and did find it difficult to comfortably move my arms for safes and my punch the midget mechanics. Part of that might have been it had molded to my friends body and part of it might have been just that I wasn't use to a hard shell at all then.

OK, that's a start. Now let's discuss the straps - you aren't cinching yourself into the CP, are you ...? What I mean is, is it perhaps a bit too tight?

And finally - what size Platinum did you buy? There's one that 10.75", and the other is 12".

Well, it is a bit tight but I feel as though that is way I need it because I don't want it sliding around under my shirt. Also, I am not sure which size I got. I think I got the 12" though...

Protection isn't any different from what I can tell. The Gold just fits me so much better than the Platinum did. Whatever I did I could never get the Platinum to stay up high enough. I was always cinching it up and it was always sliding down. The Gold stays right where it is supposed to. (I have the M/L, 38-44 size...I'm about 6'1, 175)

I can tell the Gold is still getting broken in because it does feel a little stiff still, especially in the shoulders.

I have the Original West Vest. I'm taking the shoulder pads off that one and putting on my West Vest Gold. After that it will stop looking like I have football pads on me.

One more thought here on the Platinum and way it's constricting your arm movement:

Yesterday I stripped the pads off my Platinum, washed them (be sure to follow the directions, campers - DON"T put them in the washer, and DON'T submerge the pads in water) - - anyway, as I was putting the pads back on this morning, I realized that the upper shoulder shell (not the pad, but the 'top' shell) can easily slip underneath the shell that goes up over your collarbone - - that is, the upper clam-shaped shell can slip beneath horsecollar portion of the shell. If it does this, then I can see where you might have some limitations to your arms moving up - - I tried it on with that upper clam shell underneath the horsecollar shell, and found it tougher to move my arms upward; so be sure that the upper shoulder shells ride on top.

This could also happen when you're putting on your shirt, so it may not be easily noticed....

I recently removed the little "W" padding on my west vest platinum since purchasing the Delta Flex. The new harness fits great but I was uncomfortable with the padding. Since I removed the padding it CP feels a big slimmer where the buttons are and flatter. Any one else done this?

I have the gold and platinum...I like how the gold fits because it doesn't have that padding at the neck area...took mine off the platinum and it fits awesome.
