if the first basemen receives a throw on a force play and bobbles it finally traps it against her body...with the outside of the glove or the forearms...as the runner crosses the bag...she then grabs it with her hand or lets it role into her glove

safe?

and now back to my foul tip question...ball glances off glove and then is trapped against cp and then grabbed with hand...caught foul tip?

(i did softball only for so many years that all of my questions say she....but i usually mean baseball AND softball when i ask a question)

I agree with MS, but while looking this up in the MLB Procedures and Interpretations book, I found something interesting: "The fielder must hold the ball securely and firmly in his hand or glove while touching the base with his body before the batter-runner touches first in order to make an out"

Now correct me if I am wrong, but if the runner and fielder touch the bag at the same time, according to this definition, wouldn't the runner be safe?

Read the rule itself, it says the runner must beat the throw. If I hear the old,"Tie goes to the runner!" I tell them tie goes to the umpire and I'm getting an out. :spit: :WTF

Oh, if I hear another coach say "tie goes to the runner" I'm going to toss him on the spot for stupidity.:givebeer:

Is the runner in the OP safe because the 1B didn't have control yet, or because he/she trapped the ball against her body?

Does a ball need to be caught with the glove or hand only to be legit, or does trapping the ball against the body (if it's secure, no movement) count?
