As the others have said, the run scores. Reason: The out of the runner not tagging up at first is an "appeal" play. Since the run scored before the "appeal" for out number three the run counts, game over.

Yup, your right. The point I was trying to make, and messed up making, was it's not a tie if you see and hear both things at the exact same time.

Interesting LL Rules: 6.05, Batter/runner is out when he/she is tagged or first base is tagged before the batter/runner touches first ("tie" goes to the runner) 7.08, Runner is out when he/she fails to reach the next base he/she is forced to before he/she or the base is tagged ( "tie" goes to the fielder).

Have you ever had one? The ball in the glove at the exact one hundred billionth of a second that the runners foot hit the bag, Nope, never going to happen. By the way if your watching the batter/runner's foot hitting the base and listening for the sound of the ball hitting F3's glove and they happen at the "exact same time" it's not a tie, the runner beat the throw, light travels much much faster than sound!

Used to travel a lot on business. Lots of time with nothing to do. So, I'd ask the hotel front desk where the closest youth baseball fields were and I'd go down there and walk around and watch the kids play. Didn't have a camera/take pictures and I was never asked who I was or why I was there. Hate to think I was being profiled as a potential child preditor.

Not much you can do if the person has no prior charges/convictions. You do the background checks and weed out the ones you find. After that, you just keep your eyes and ears open as much as you can.

12) Getting Hit Many many years ago doing the plate in a LL game. The batter swings and misses and lets go of the bat on his backswing. Bang, the lights go out. I wake up as I'm being loaded into the ambulance. Off to the hospital for an examination and some concussion tests. The wife gets called and shows up at the hospital about 15 minutes later all worried. I tell her I feel fine except for the lump on the side of my head! After about 2 hours the Doctor says everything checked out OK and the wife and I head for the Exit. Get to the Waiting Room and there are about 75 people there clapping and cheering as I walk out. Players from both teams, parents, fans, my umpiring partner, ... Priceless.

So, did you Protest the call? What did the Umpire do/say when you pulled out your Rulebook? Just as a heads-up, most Umpires will eject you for pulling out a Rulebook, the consensus is you are "showing up" the umpire. Now, if you asked him and he said it was OK then that's a different story. Did your pitcher "step towards first" on the kick-off of just "snap throw" over there?

Living in Florida lightning is taken very seriously. All of our city/county parks have lightning detectors. When they go off clear the fields. No one allowed back until the all clear sounds. I've seen fields cleared under sunny skies and not cleared under dark skies! Lightning can easily strike up to a half hour before "the storm" gets to you and up to a half hour after it passes.I Obviously, better safe than sorry.

R1 and R2. When the ball is hit on the ground R2 is forced to go to third and R1 is forced to advance to second. When F6 throws to second for the force out of R1, R2 is no longer forced to third. As such, R2 must be tagged while off the base to be out out.

First, it's not a force out at first base. Force outs are made by runners "forced" to advance due to the actions of the batter. Second, if the first baseman has the ball firmly in his glove he can touch first base with any part of his body. No difference tagging the base with his foot or hand or any other part of the body. In the case you described the batter/runner is out.

A batter/runner thrown out a first is not a force out. The third out was made by the batter/runner before reaching first base, no run(s) can score on the play.

While the runner is attempting to return to first you could either tag first base or tag the runner.

Example: from the movie Major League (or Major League II). The catcher catches the ball and instead of throwing it back to the pitcher he throws it to F5 who then throws it to the pitcher. How many times are you going to let him do that before you give him a warning to not do that again? What are you going to do if he ignores your "warning" and does it again?

The ump's job is not to help the defense (not the offense for that matter). If the players can't throw the ball back to the pitcher the manager/coaches need to work on it with them during practice. As for walking it back to the pitcher, I'm warning them (and the manager) to not do it again. If they do, they are violating the directions of an umpire, ejection time.
