  1. I have 2 sets, one new and one used.
  2. Perfect position and a perfect call. Just wish JBJ would have gunned him out!
  3. Great experience with @codizzled. Product shipped quickly and was as advertised. More than satisfied!

    pitched ball

He did let it hit him since he caught it so it's an automatic dead ball and then you call the pitch a ball or a strike. No runners can advance.
  5. Had almost this exact play last night. My mechanic was "Safe! Safe! Dropped the ball! Safe!" No arguments but the DHC thought it was an out and started saying "good job blah blah blah." He calmly asked between innings how long the fielder has to hold the ball for it to be an or and I said until the tag is complete and he said ok and we moved on. As @noumpere said, drop the whole "ground can/can't cause a fumble" thing cause it's a different sport and you don't want to be explaining it that way.

    coach

You say circle so I assume softball? I don't do much softball but can't she advance until the pitcher is in the circle then the look back rule comes into play.
  7. So then Davidson had to have put some responsibility on JB for the fight happening. In the video it looked like Davidson was getting ready to call a double play but then Odor decided to become a pro-boxer.
  8. 5, count em, 5 deals for a Nike Ti fell though in the past lol

    Fair or foul?

Is it weird that I've had this happen more than a few times? The pitchers have a bad habit of kicking the dirt in front of the mound and it is rarely fixed between games so I've seen many a grounder up the middle be untouched by the fielder and be foul.
  11. I always use the hand on the side of my body that fair territory is. That's to say that for 1BL point with left and 3BL point with right (as PU). You can point with mask in your left hand or you can move the mask momentarily to your right hand and point with your left hand. I don't think you should point across your body (I don't think it looks good but I don't know if an acceptable mechanic). There's a lot of things that the MLB guys do that we shouldn't do. It may be accepted but I don't think it's the proper mechanic.
  12. I'd say that it was interesting but perfect may be going too far. Without being there is say they probably could have tagged him out sooner but hey they got the out so that's all that matters.
  13. As far as I can remember I was always taught that the second the fielder has possession of the ball and touches first the BR is out. Don't know what others are taught but it seems that we agree about when the BR is out.
  14. Interesting. Could be planning for when he comes to Rutgers on Sunday. The field I was at was only about 7 miles from where he would be.
  15. As long as the fielder doesn't butcher the tag, I'm grabbing the out, especially at the lower levels where the plays aren't made so easily. JV and above I want to see a tag because they should know how to get the glove down and I'm not rewarding them for not knowing how to tag even if the optic is bad.
  16. So much beauty in one pic
  17. Should have clarified. The green ones had the white tops and looked exactly like the ones that the big guy gets in at the White House. There were only 2 though and I thought the usually fly with 3 if the President is in one.
  18. Exactly as you said, if the retired runner alters (hinders) the play, it is interference.
  19. It annoys me more when my partner knows better and chooses not to do the little things because they've gotten where they are doing it their way. I find that when I ask them about it, they say it doesn't matter or we don't need to cause we know what we're doing. Its my job to do certain things on the field and that includes the little things. I try to do my job the best I can. I try not to take short cuts. If my partner does and he hangs me out to dry, I'll be there to cover for him on the play, but we will have a long post-game. My opinion is, if you don't want to do all that is required of you for the job, don't to the job. My
  20. Happened to me today in my frosh game. Batter stepped in and tapped the plate with his bat. Pitcher tried to quick pitch him and I jumped out and away and killed it. No need to hold the game up with a stop sign, just make sure the batter knows what's going on.
  21. My partner and I were getting dressed and we heard this loud rumbling. My partner thought it was the train tracks behind the field until I pointed these 2 out. Really cool to watch them fly by. They flew by again about a half hour later, followed by 2 green helicopters. Might have something to do with Obama coming to NJ.
  22. "Forever" is pretty subjective. Too long for me may be fine for you. If there's and issue, address it, but if he's trying to get in the pitchers head, tell him to get in the box so we can play baseball.
  23. Happens to me in fall ball every now and then when I work at the local wreck league. The pitchers are always better than the catchers. Before I got to the coach, I would try to talk to the catcher, especially at 14u. I'd say something like "You're killing me back here. You gotta get a glove on those or I'm not gonna be able to give you a good zone." Hopefully he gets it, if not and you keep getting hit, call time and tell the coach we need a new catcher. The real question is what do you do when the coach says he's the best catcher on the team....
  24. 1- When the batter is in the box and the ball is live, I give the count before as the pitcher is coming onto the rubber because he is not yet taking signs, but he is still looking at me. If it was a foul or time was called and the batter is stepping back into the box, I usually hold up the stop sign, say the count, them put the ball in play. I do that, so I control the playing action and something doesn't happen unless I/my partner are ready. 2- I don't take the ball out of play when the batter is getting ready. If he isn't ready and the pitcher tries to quick pitch him, I kill it, but the ball is live and the runner can be picked off. A good rule of thumb is to keep the ball live and in play as much as possible. Why deny the defense a chance to get an out if R1 isn't paying attention?
  25. If part of the cost of the mask went to charity I'd probably get one. Then again, being the kind of guy who buys tons of gear, I might get one anyway. I would think the bright pink would be distracting to the pitcher. Maybe not at the major league level but possibly at the HS level.
