Actually that is not true. Even if a flag touches the ground on American Soil it is not necessarily supposed to get burned.. It is a big misconception. he flag should never touch anything beneath it. Contrary to an urban legend, the flag code does not state that a flag that touches the ground should be burned. Thats major BS anyone using a ballon probably wouldn't touch these arm guards, the ballon is all about staying cool in the heat, these arm guards are for extra safety not less, the ballon keeps nobody safe,

I would be a little more considerate toward him than others who have continually posted questions or situations that they should have already mastered since they have been posting on this forum at least as long as I have been. I just didn't want him to think that these are the "finer points" and once he gets this stuff down he'll be all set to work the world series (or the local league championship). While I appreciate the importance of "timing" and not being too quick with a call, once you have used good timing and judged a "no catch", that call should be given ASAP because runners are depending on it ("no catch" can not turn into "catch"). Conversely, an apparent "catch" can become "no catch" (no voluntary release)...slow on the out call is the way to go. Runners may go (assuming a legal tag up) when ball is touched. My delay in ensuring a catch/no catch in this kind of situation has little bearing on that. Umpires must ensure a voluntary release before committing to a call. I do know of situations where runners need to know a quick catch/no catch, and most of the time those plays are the result of a dive and/or possible trap Even on (especially on) the trap catch/no catch, you have to wait for voluntary release...you can't rush the "catch" call. If the ball is trapped ("no catch"), then do give that call ASAP. The runners don't have to wait - they can go as soon as the ball is touched.Wait what? So its once a fielder TOUCHES THE BALL not CATCHES THE BALL. Is that correct?

Thanks guys, these are the "finer points" i am try to get better with, once i get formal training i think i will be better, but theres not alot of that available for a 17 yearold around here, next year Im going up to the Williamsport Clinic, run by LL but for now I'm relying on what i can learn here and elsewhere online

I'm still confused as to why this season there are so many call up spaces listed on the crews, last year most crews had 4 guys on them but this year it seems like there are more using a call up, are there more crews now? why? why leave so many vacant slots instead of hiring permanent guys to fill the slots?

Am I suppose to put the ball back into play after every foul ball? Keep in mind 90% the same ball is the same one because its normally recovered by a player or coach or parent sitting out of play, rarley is it a new ball being used after a foul ball

im confidant in all my gear choices, except the UE's I am still considering Golds as an option, was considering Douglas shins, but even though i said i wasnt going cheap on this gear they are nearly $200 for protection compared closely to the Golds

Well if I'm gonna buy a "higher end" cp that's worth it so when i buy mine im adding it on, if i was adding it to my P200 probably not worth it, but I'm not skimping on my new gear set, All Star MVP 2500, Douglas CP, UE shinnies, nutty butty, reebok magistrates, so ill probably add the gap protection

How much does it cost to have it added?

I am planning on buying a douglas cp and a pair of UE shins before the end of next season, but i read about "gap protection" does this come standard on the new douglas chest protectors? And am i correct in thinking gap protection is like collar bone protection?

I get cash at the plate except two rec leagues, 1 that choses not to(which is fine that league is fun to umpire, so its no biggie) and one that had theft issues where a board member wrote checks to himself from the league so they guard their money they have to let their travel teams pay cash to our association umpires(i am one of them) but im on their "rec staff"(umpires they hire themselves for their rec games) and those games its checks every month since they create the policy for that given there is no association, all league checks must have 2 members sign from the board due to the theft issues That post was a bit detailed but it tells you alot about this area, travel umpires we have an association so its cash, but when the league hires umpires its checks, makes you love associations
