  1. If some of you come to France, i can find games for you to work with me
  2. As i often say to young umpires, youth baseball is the best field to learn, everything can happen !
  3. you're not wrong....and something i didn't think about is the fact that only PU decides if the batter did try to avoid the pitch or not.....
  4. Totally agree with you. A HP or a foul ball that hits the foot are sometimes difficult things to see and call...If my BU calls something that i didn't see with the intent to kill the play immediatly and make things clearer for everybody, i've got no problem with it.
  5. Hey ! Pas mal mon ami !!
  6. Hello everybody !! Yeterday, i was umpiring a French Elite baseball game between two of the best teams here. Home team (Rouen Huskies) scored a point in the bottom of 4th on a great play at home plate (i had the dish). 1-0 unitl top of 9th. Visiting team (Montpellier Barracudas) scored 4 points on a gd-slam HR by their american player Will Muson. 4-1. Bottom 9th, Rouen placed a runner on 1st and 2nd. Bing ! A bomb to left field and the score is then tied 4-4 !! 3 hits later (the game winning hit with 2 outs and 2 strikes) Rouen scored the winning run. After the game, i realized that umpiring games like this is the reason why i umpire. Living such games is so gooooodddd !!!!!!
  7. the eye of the tiger......
  8. The term "mostly" is ont appropriate. That is what i wanted to proove...Serafin and Cros are french at 100 per cent and learned baseball in France. If you compare with Spain, ok, the term "mostly" is here the right word with all their venezuelian native players...
  9. Wrong ! About 90 per cent of the team play in the french championship. Andy Paz plays in rookie league for the A's. René Leveret plays pro in indépendant league. Serafin plays in Canada and Jongerius in Netherlands. Cespedes returned to Cuba this year...Far from what you say...
  10. victory against Spain on friday. Qualification game again against Panama saturday. Defeat 7-4 for French Team vs a few pros...not that bad !
  11. Baseball is everywhere my friend !!
  12. Yesterday, team France lost against Panama in its first game (9-2). I know many of you don't watch much these games but here's an idea of the baseball played in France. ^^ http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/8879974/v557047883/?query=france%2Bpanama
  13. first, i would have let the batter try to reach first base. BUT, and it's in this kind of situation that you realize that reading the rules as often as possible is really necessary.... OBR 6.06 (c) comments: "if the batter strikes at a ball and misses and swings so hard he carries the bat all the way around and, in the umpire's judgment, unintentionnally hits the catcher OR THE BALL in back of him on the backswing before the catcher has securely held the ball, it shalled be called a strike only (not interference). The ball is dead, however, and no runner shall advance on the play" There is this one too...: 7.09 (a): "it's interference by a batter (or runner) when, after a 3rd strike, he hinders the catcher in his attempt to field the ball" Which one ??
  14. yes, everything can happen in baseball..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDCcq4Dejk0&feature=youtu.be

    Tim Tschida

  18. If i see the step balk, even if i am in B, i call it.
  19. Yesterday, i met Tim Tschida in Paris for a 1-day clinic. Just great to meet guys like this....
  20. In 2 weeks, i will take part to a 1-day clinic in Paris with former MLB umpire Tim Tschida. I would have prefered at least a 2-days clinic but...It's not that often that we can practice with big league umpires. There will be a 5 days clinic with Jim Evans in april in Netherlands too. Sorry that i will not participate to this one because of my work...
  21. "Dear Mr Colin, your order has been sent"...... A little travel over the Atlantic Ocean and all i needed will be under my Christmas tree.... It costs me 64 $ of postal service....You need to be motivated to umpire in Europe, trust me...
  22. Just sent my list to Gerry Davis...with the payment of course..... A new mask, new light blue shirt, and 2 things unfoundable in Europe: a cap keep and a "clothes travel bag"
  23. Enjoy !
  24. Do some of you watch this tournament? For team USA, which level are the players? Minors? Universitary?
