    Pay

In Texas, we invoice each game(s) directly to the school (usually thru the ticket taker or HC). Checkt usually comes within 2-3 weeks from the school district. After 30 days, I inquire (4 times in 10 years). After 45 days, the school is to be reported to the state (never happened to me).
  2. That's a good one. Common sense and fair play (IMO) would say that #2 F1 (a sub without re-entry eligibility) would not be burned by the CR being turned into an illegal sub. But sometimes common sense and fair play are overridden by the rules. I would ... ...pray that it doesn't happen to me.

Well ... having never done this, my belief that this will turn the game to crap is only a theory. Since you doubt my theory, I challenge you to disprove it. Use your stop watch, ball F1 when he busts 20 seconds, then report back your findings, Smitty.

Wait, you say that you rarely get a 17-18 second delay (I assume you're timing them), so you haven't had to address the matter. If that was true, that would mean that you never have more than a 19 second delay. REALLY ? I'll be calling BS. Indicator in your left hand, stop watch in your right hand ... DO YOUR JOB, Smitty
  5. No sense, no feeling ... sometimes they don't even know that they've been hit.

Plan A If DHC complains that I am helping the offense and screwing with his freeze the batter strategy, then go to Plan B
  7. Had this a few years ago, the hand wasn't cut, but the the wound seeped blood out (like you might expect if the heel of your hand got between a bat knob and a fastball...looked ugly. Gave the batter 1B. DHC was incredulous...<shrug>

It still was a competitive game until late ... just exhausting. My prescription strength Geritol was no match.

impractical ... never even heard of it being done. And a sure fire way to turn your game to crap.
  10. How is the batter to know which way the coach wants him to hit the pitch ?
  11. ^^^ This. Our TD created the local rule/penalty ... dead ball, batter out, runners return to base time of pitch. Unless there is a local rule/penalty, its nothing if its not interference on a play.
  12. But I do wish that the umpire would get compensated for having his correctly applied ruling challenged. Me and my latest rules challenge prize. Relax ... it was my partner's (not coach's) 18-pack. Smiling because winning is easy...collecting is hard.

I don't threaten to do things that I don't plan to follow-thru on. Besides, the ball penalty is only an option with no runners on-base. I couldn't threaten to call penalty balls with runners on base. Instead of living with it, I like noumpere's workable suggestion.

That'll change the game dynamics ... not for me. And I'm not going to be counting down every pitch.

Team A was mostly doing this, but team B was guilty also. F1 in contact with the rubber (runners on and off). Batter watching F1 for pitch delivery. I'm watching F1 in contact. In my peripheral vision, I can see F2 looking in the dugout for coaches pitch signal a long time. By the time F1 is ready to deliver (without further delay), the batter is frozen (so am I) and asks for time...granted more than a dozen times and TIME could have been requested dozens more. The question is, what can be done about it. Do I do say something, or just suck it up and endure the game dragging on. It may be that HC's strategy, I dunno...he isn't a newbie HC. What recourse do we have ?
  16. ^^^ this. Batter is standing there ready for a pitch and F2 is still looking at the dugout for the signal. B feel like they are freezing him and asks for TIME...further delaying the game. I brought out a watch for my last BU varsity game. The inning changes took roughly 60-75 seconds. Ball down, thrown around the horn while the batter gets ready at the plate another 15 seconds...I don't think in between inning time is a big issue in our varsity games. But sub-var, when partners are "visiting" in between pitches is another story.
  17. Coaching requires a note from a neurosurgeon stating that you've fully recovered from your lobotomy. If you didn't have one, then coaching these young men wast totally inappropriate and I am reporting you to the authorities.
  18. Same zone. And surely didn't get any smaller.
  19. Our leadership went with option #1. New infielders could have warmed-up in the bullpen like a pitcher. If that didn't happen, that's on the coach. You just don't see this done in any baseball. Too many cheating and pre-warming up F1, so they decided to do this.

  21. Fed can make between innings issue a POE. States can make it a POE. But if the individual chapter/asso don't make it a POE, then nothing will be done. If chapters want to put teeth to this "POE", they can withhold plum assignments. If states want to put teeth to the POE, they have to find what would motivate chapters to emphasize it (ex. put problem assos on notice and withhold state playoff assignments for assos that don't comply). Training...keeping the game moving (the object of this POE) is a manner of training. I like my procedure and would kick/scream if mandated by my chapter to do something less efficient. But chapters can have a "canned" procedure for those who don't/won't develop their own.
  22. I think that is the question that needs to be asked of our association leadership. We can not know when the infielder wanting to throw will become the next F1. Choices seem to be: 1. prohibit all infielder warm-up during this time; 2. allow any infielder to warm-up during this time; 3. prohibit infielder warm-up when we have a clairvoyant experience and know that this infielder is going to become F1 (refer to #1). Without guidance from our asso, we are subject to criticism of over/under officiating.
  23. Well, I didn't know that they were warming up a to-be-entered-later F1, but the opposing team seemed to know. If the scope of this interp is limited to future F1, I don't know how we can foresee this. The defense certainly wasn't obligated to bringing F6 in.
  24. This is exactly why balk warnings are a bad idea. But if warnings are prescribed, then the defense may benefit as you described. Warning don't teach the youth not to balk. Penalties do. If I was an umpire, I would get the balk warning done ASAP and penalize after.
  25. In my case, F1 pitched to 2 or 3 batters, could get them out of the inning and then F6 (the one throwing previously) came into pitch. He ended up throwing a wild pitch to score what would be the winning run. We're not going to find this in the rule book. Rule book changes take lots of effort ... official interps, not so much. But these official interps have the same weight as a rule book reference, IMO. @Jimurray , thanks
