Cal Ripken Majors 50/75' Close play at pickoff at first base. I bang the out as BU. As I jog back to 'A' I hear "that's horrible" and "that's 2!" from the offensive head coach at third base. (Truthfully I have no idea what "1" was, not that it really matters) What should be the best way to handle this? I didn't think yelling across the diamond across the diamond at him would be best. Just ignore it?

Just watch the ball all the way from the first replay... it didn't hit anything. F8 just got a bad read on it.

I wonder what the reasoning behind that is. I feel like you should use all possible knowledge on this. And FWIW I think it was after this play where the balls rolled foul

I think you could make the case for this being intentional but I do not think this would have had a chance to go back fair... there were a couple of other balls down that line that all rolled foul

what's the reasoning for pivoting instead of just watching the touch in foul territory? Just incase U3 is sleeping and doesn't rotate to second?

USSSA doesn't really have a 'ruleset' per se, they pretty much just add a bunch of safety rules to OBR. If the pitcher was on the rubber, this would be a balk. http://web.usssa.com/usssa/usssa-general/2016 Baseball Rule Book.pdf

I believe, but I don't have access to a FED casebook, that as long as the in between inning chatter doesn't delay the warmups, it's not considered a charged conference.

This may be a better question for local league officials but how do you guys think we should treat this under babe ruth rules? Of course in OBR they have changed this to the quote above, but I can look directly into a 2017 Babe Ruth rulebook and it still shows the rule how it was prior to this year. So, which do we use? I've only seen 1 pitcher use a hybrid stance in all the time I've umpired cal ripken leagues, and he always used the stretch with runners on.

this play is obviously a bit different, but probably the closest play to the OP that I've seen in MLB. Obviously Pierre was ruled out as he was not continuing to advance, but where do we draw the line? Is simply sliding down on home plate and then hindering the catcher fielding as he lays there "continuing to advance"? 2 steps away? The 5 steps Pierre gets to?

If the ball touches R3 in fair territory before he touches home plate, that's interference and he's out. B/R gets first base everyone else returns. If the runner had already scored and the ball touches him, it's nothing unless he intentionally bats it away or does something more than have the ball simply touching him. That would apply under OBR rule 6.01(5) - retired runner interference

I'm picturing a "hybrid" set up. Are you saying he basically takes a rocker step as he would in the windup position with no runners on? OBR actually just added a new rule on this for this season, but I'm not sure what ruleset you are under. For example, I do Cal Ripken and they printed out their rule books before this change came through so I assume that it would not apply. rule 5.07(b) comment. So, it would be a balk if you're playing OBR and the pitcher does not say he's in the windup
