Even if they had it as descibed in this play it would not have been and Infield fly rule play.
-
That is exactly what I was thinking and the call was against his team too.

Saw this real live last night and no angle I saw was as good a view as the umpire had so good call.
-
Batter did not flinch or react in any way so hit by pitch did not seem likely I cannot explain that if it hit the bat he did not hear it. if it hit bat it would have been lower on the handle.
-
he said he did not and the batter moved to avoid inside pitch so i could not see it and did not hear anything as the wind was blowing pretty good all I could tell him was what I saw that the ball appeared to change direction.
-
R2 I am base umpire in C Right handed batter. Pitch comes in high and inside batter turns shoulders to get out of way. I cannot see it hit the bat or hear it but the ball does change direction. Home team wants my partner to call foul ball. He comes to me and asks if I have a fould ball. I told him was all I could tell him was that it changed direction but I did not see it hit the bat or hear any metal. He said he did not either but then went back and ruled foul ball and runner returned to second. I figured visitng team would come out and argue but they did not say a word. Would you have ruled foul ball in this situation. I know HTBT but just asking for what it is worth. I have a hard time seeing foul ball if neither of us could say hit the bat.

I was watching this and knew Melvin would be tossed when they left him on second. I could not believe they say there wasn;t enough video evidence to reverse it. I wonder what video they got to see?

Maven he said he does indeed need to simulate taking the signs which would be all the things you listed you are on the same page with our interpretor. He was just stating that some coaches wanted a balk if pitcher took signs off of the rubber and then proceeded to step on and again simulate taking the signs. He was just letting everyone know this is legal.
-
Our interpretor told us a little differently he said if he takes the signs off the rubber he would still be fine if he at least simulated taking the signs from the rubber and did not quick pitch. His reasoning was even though it probably isn't the catcher could be giving signs to the infielders and as long as he simulated he was taking signs from the rubber he was ok. This is under FED rules though.

Varsity game last night behind the plat tight fast ball fouled off the handle straight to chin area of my mask. Thanks to Team Wendy I only have a mild concussion. I am sure it would have been much worse without considering how hard a hit it was. Just beware of things guys this was in top of fourth and I was fine or thought I was until the bottom of the 5th when all of the sudden a major headache came on. Trainer looked at me and actually pulled me out of the game. I am glad she did it could have been worse if I were hit again that game.
-
I did pull him aside it was just us and he would not budge from his call.

Unfortunately this league does not allow protests but I could not believe he would not listen to me in any way. In the end I just had to tell the visiting team coach it was his call and it was what we were sticking with. I could see he knew I didn't like it and he was already ahead 10 to 0 so he let it go. I expect I will hear from our assigner about it this week sometime if not tonight. This is the only time I have ever felt like throwing my partner under the bus but I cannot do to someone what I would not want to happen to me.

Had a partner that just amazed me yesterday and made it to the do not work with again list R1, R2 no out top 3rd. I have the plate. Pop up on the infield we call IFF batter out and R2 has a brain fart and runs to 3rd on contact. SS fails to catch ball. For some reason home coach appeals leaving early at 2nd and my partner calls him out. They are stating then once we call IFF then the ball is considered caught and all runners can tag from that point on. visiting coach argued with my partner and I tried to correct but he would not listen. He kept saying caught ball or not once we call IFF all runners must tag regardless of whether the ball is caught or not. I have worked with him numerous times and never had an issue until this time. How would you correct this if it was your partner and it is his call? After the game I tried to get him to show me where he got it from but he just hopped in his car and left didn't even wait for me to finish getting out of my gear. I was wondering what I missed because home coach and Umpire were saying the same thing.

This is your call as BU make the call you see then if the coach makes an appeal go to your partner for help.

I am a buckeye fan but tonight it is go Big Ten Go UM.

Working a JV scrimmage Saturday. I am BU. Nothing much going on all game a few bangers but nothing much. R1 stealing second just barely gets tagged on hip I call out. Score keeper in dugout I think AC tells me he has to tag him I tell him tag on hip. Then i hear a fan scream you are pathetic. Head coach calls time and I think he might be coming out to discuss the call. Nope he goes to the fence and reams the fan out and told him to learn to watch the game better and keep his mouth shut he and first base coach both saw the tag. I was speechless. When the guy first said your pathetic I laughed and first base coach says good thing they are in midseason form. Coach really surprised here and it was fun to hear him rip into the fan.
-
BT_Blue you should tell the coach that instead of helping him find his spot in the box it really is for helping him find his spot on the becnh after he is tossed.

An ump with a heart of gold - Denver Post
OHUMP replied to Umpire-Empire Reporter's topic in Umpire News From Around the Web
I always thought Jim Joyce was one of the best. Now this proves it!!!!!! -
I don't care if Kemp did only say what he said if the umpire says that enough and right afterward you say something even not inteded at him things happen he might hear it wrong your gone. Mattingly is become the #1 whiner in baseball.

Jax I did not give you my permission to use my picture on this website.

Was the umpire mic'd also look when he turns around that looks like some part of a wireless mic.
-
What if it was intentioanal and the hit by detached equipment kept it from coming back fair don't you still have the award but again that would be a total judgement call.
-
Good luck Jax from what I have seen you are doing a great job keep it up!!!
