  1. This is why I believe you do this. It's not for the money, indeed. It is because you LOVE the game and wanna give all a chance to play the game, not only the better ones at it.
  2. Mr Umpire: Quote: The batter is only protected from catcher's interference if he is in the batter's box when it occurs. If he is out of the batter's box, there should be no penalty accessed. In addition, should he contact the ball while outside of the batter's box, he would be declared out. This can happen in a couple of ways, one more likely than the other I believe this is the key wording here. Most of the things I have read here has never happend to me before and this is why I like this forum. I can dscuss things "before" they happen to me and learn from your experiences hoping that IF this ever happens to me on a ballgame, I might recall your advises, together with my rule knowledge. Is there anyone out there who is making notes and plans to make a book out of these items? Let me know cause I sure wanna buy one. Regards,
  3. I'm wondering: How often those these kinds of things happen there?
  4. Yes it does. BTW is there a manual of how to use this site properly in order not to disturb you on each small item? Thanks again!

  5. Any chance of a delete box infront of the new posts? So those you are not interested in reading you can simply delete them and keep the new posts list as empty as posible?

  6. Hi Eric, Greetings & Welcome !
  7. I found this post on "Umpire Fraternization with Team" interesting and have nominated it accordingly for "Post Of The Month August, 2010"
  8. @Tommy --> If whatever happens on the field when you are Ump a game remember that your partner -who ever that might be- is the only one who would be able to help you out. When I'm on the field, if I have to, I will knock myself or anyone else down to keep my partner and I ahead of any situation. I would not care that I might not have the strenght as to confront 9 or 18 players... they will have to carry me away on a strecher afterwards 'cause I know I will be back on the field to ump another game, and I'm sure as hell that I will not compromise to be scared to do so. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say here.
  9. Don't forget us.... the party crushers.... I believe we have same time as NY most of the time. I would call in once every 3 months. If you have a chat-line it would be easier. And remember: All those who said they would not call in the show, the moment they here somebody say anything incorrect regarding the rules of baseball, they will call in IMMEDIATELY to have it corrected. You will have audiance that's for sure!

    Unknown Rules

=========================================== Remember: I COME FROM A TINNY LITTLE ISLAND so EVERYBODY KNOWS EVERYBODY, works with or for everybody, sees everybody almost daily, have kids being friends with everybody and so on. You do not talk to spectators on the field but you will have to after the game, the next morning at work, in supermarkets, over the fence.... You really can become a good politician here...whaahahha.. I have learned that the better knowledge the spectators have of the rules the lesser they grounch about your call. There are also some exceptions where they "believe" they know the rules and get all mixed up and screaming out loud stupid remarks but ok, ... even those helps now and then cause when they have made themselves known, as soon as they start screaming, the rest -who doesn't want to be related with them- stops critisizing out loud. I try not to start any conversation with the frase "You are wrong" I almost always start with the question ' You really thinks so? Why is that? So they start explaining why they are sure that in such play the call should have been such and then I reply " but you know that in the regulation book is stated in chapter X that ....." Well this always shut them up. An umpire that knows every rule as she can even mention to which chapter you can find it.. Whahaha if they only knew...whahaha.. After a while even when you could be wrong on a call/rule interpretation they will not argue 'cause "she knows the rules by heart" However I prefer the learning coaches. They always ask why and when you explain or show them why, next time, that particular rule will never be of any problem again. I like those better cause they help by keeping myself upgrated. I wish you guys could ump here once. You will have a good time here. I invite you all to inform me when you will be on the island for vacation and I will try and get you a chance to ump. Remember 1 thing : the payment is low from what you have been used to but... you will remember this chance for ever...whahhaha ( you will even go back to USA having a certain apreciation of those you call RATS)...whahahaha... Total different story.

7.13 in LL. Most of the parents doesn't know the implication of "leaving to soon". I have had HUGE discussions when the run does not score when the bases are loaded. Angry parents, angry kids, angry coaches sometimes even angry ME.
  12. Are you talking about the BB games or the wordtwisting game here..whahhahah Papiamentu: Sigui ku e bon trabou. And you surely don't speek dutch eihter, 'cause that translation was perfect!
  13. Btw: Soon i will post how our leagues and way of ump is done here on the island, for those who are interesed.
  14. You're most welcome Aging Arbiter. xoxo
  15. ======================================= I know that. Since I started umpiring, whenever it's my birthday, I try to get a game to ump. Therefore, I do not have to arrange anything else at home as we start games here around 20.00. and are ump till around 23.00 and afterwards keep on the mellodrama till around 01.00. I only have to bring a HUGE bottle of whiskey, don't have to worry about what to wear and doesn't have to clean the place afterwards...AWESOME.
  16. :o I was wondering regarding the undershirts mentioned in one of those post. If it keeps you from being sweatty al over... than it will be on my -very short- list.
  17. ============================================== Is this a typical Umpire manner? I thought it was only those I knew that behave like that...whahhaa... Eventhough I have to say that most of the Umps I know personally, are awesome people, good jokers, well-mannerd and good party fellows and drinkers. Not heavy drinkers but they can't argue without the fuel if you know what I mean. The older they are, the greater person. That's my humble opinion... don't shoot me, ok?
  18. I believe the problem has been solved. If not I will get back to you UIC. Thanks again!

  19. UIC, If someone have forgotten their username, how can they get logged in whithout opening another account? R@

  20. Congrats! :D
  21. ============================================ You are right on that... If you do not stribe to be better... then there is no point. In our case, we are being evaluated every season by our UIC personaly and almost every game we play/ump by the player agent. Thus eventhough you are a certified Ump you might not be nominated due to your lack of competence. Afterall, you are representing the country when abroad. To be or become a better Umpire relies within your own interest. Every single umpire is willing to help out both on mechanics as on ruling. And they all do it for free. I take every chance I get to learn and keep learning and learning others when possible. Regards,
  22. Gr8 job indeed! A very "fresh" site. Pls hurry up with the quizzes.
  23. Hey.... I got another baseball beneath my name ... and that's for ?
  24. ============================================ For us the importance to stay certified is for when the caribbean or international tournament takes place. No uncertified umpire will be sent abroad, only certified ones. Further to this. although we are not being obligated to go to a refreshment course, if you do you will also have an edge above the others that dont. Needless to say that during the season our UIC will pass by every playfield to look and evaluate how his umps are doing on the field. Also the playeragent will give his opinion as how good/bad you are. And if necesary, you will be adressed and a coach assigned. This all happens voluntarly and no one even knows you are being put "under curatele" whahahah... I have not been selected yet to preform abroad in an international game but I have done it here on the island. Eventhough I'm certified and go to refreshment courses sometimes twice a year, the fact that I do not have my equipment and have not "officialy" ump after the plate has me in a position that I will not be send abroad. And it's understandable cause my UIC could not say in has e-mail: He guys, to represent the Antilles we will be sending an ump but she has not chiefed any game yet so just put her on bases or foul-line...whahaha.... that will be the day. But as of next year........... I also like to search for UMP tests on internet. But whith the exeption of LL it's a bit tricky as we do not always play by the same rules you guys do. F.e. we do not have HS. Our AA plays also combined ruling so any test I take, I will have to go to my UIC and other fellow umps for assistant and further teaching. But I really like this. It always becomes a happening. Somethimes just under a tree or something 2 starts talking, 1/2 hour later... 10 are discussing.... GREAT! I will follow any course provided as they are all free. Our ump organisation provide us once a year with pants and shirts for the uniform. This is also free of charge. This is to compensate the fact that although they want to, they can not pay us a good "salary". This year I will be working on my condition and further rule knowledge as I am trying to reach the USA to attend a course or clinic. Still searching for one. It should be between 3 to 7 days no more. When I am so far, I will be informing you guys so maybe we can meet and discuse rulings..whahhaha... lol. Meanwhile, I will be working on the BBterms used internationaly, as I already have encountered some problems here on the site... whahaha... Never to old to learn something new!
