  1. Why do you ever need an indicator? You have ten attached to the end of your arms. I just touch the appropriate number of fingers to my thumb. Each pitch I make the effort to do this and it sticks. I started early this year and was going to try it on the dish. I stuck my indicator in my ball bag and was going to just reach in after each pitch. After 3 pitches, I quit using it. I haven't used it since. At first I didn't think it would be possible. I would get the count from my indicator, give it to the pitcher, and then forget what I just gave. Without it, I seem to focus more. YMMV.
  2. I'm with Andrew. My typical call is "Infield Fly". Pause and wait. Once the ball is touched/comes to rest, declare the result. YMMV.
  3. I couldn't tell either way whether it was correct or not. UEFL says it was not. I have to believe Nelson had a great view on this so probably no tag. The conference on the other hand should never have happened that way. Nelson threw Estabrook under the bus. If you watch the replay, about the time the play is happening at 1B, you can see Nelson in the bottom corner of the screen coming up the line. It appears he never stops and gets to Estabrook and then calls the others together.
  4. Compression shorts Nutty Buddy Jock Compression tights Works awesome and doesn't move. Took a couple shots this year. The only one I felt is one that hit cup and meat.
  5. Just saw the best view of this on MLB network. It showed the play from behind homeplate. Clearly a Fair Ball. Soto picked the ball up from on top of the plate.
  6. I think it was a correct call as well. No angle I saw could prove otherwise. Hoye was not blocked, however, his view was between Soto's legs. Hoye had the next best view other than Soto. And Ozzie's rant was amusing.
  7. You decide. Fair or Foul
  8. I don't have any rule basis. In the batter's box=HBP(unless it's intentional contact by batter) Between the chalk=batter must make an attempt
  9. Check out the Officially Cool . It is a cool pack that you put under your chest protector. The gel inside the pads have high freezing points which allows easy charging. The Endurance has an 80 degree freezing temp and the Performance has a 55 degree freezing temp. I had the opportunity to use a one similar to the Performance a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't an Officially Cool, but a 55 degree pad. It was a 6:30 game in South Texas. Normally would be drenched in sweat. After 1:15, I hadn't broken a sweat yet and was very cool. Pulled the pad out and it still had a charge left. Put it in a small ice chest and it was recharged in 30 minutes for game 2 for my partner. I am in no way affiliated with this company. Just a satisfied client with a set on order.
  10. 10. You can appeal each runner/BR missing each base. An appeal is not considered a play or attempted play.
  11. So does that count as 1 EJ or 2?
  12. The way I have been taught is if the batter stays in the box, they have to do something intentional to get called for B-INT. Once they are out of the box, they are more likely to get called for it. Also, when R3 is coming home with a right handed batter, the real "interference" the batter causes is with his own runner.

    Proper Batter

I don't think he has to clarify who is batting out of order on the appeal. All the coach has to do is appeal BOO and I'm going to sort it out.
  14. I had nothing. The throw was mishandled by F4. BR didn't cross in front of the catcher until after the catcher had finished his follow through. I'm not rewarding the defense because F4 took his eye off the ball and was thinking about the tag. You could see the PU immediately call the INT, then he realized that it was ball 4 and seems like he reversed his call. Then when Augie comes out, they change it back. ASU coach should have said the magic "P" word.
  15. What fields?

    Honesty

You have to love the honesty of younguns. I had a game last year where a pitch came way inside. Batter hit the dirt and I heard something although not quite sure. I was getting ready to sent the batter to first when he said, "That hit my bat." OK. *Hammer* Strike.
  18. Or you could show him the final finger. WHOOSH

    Dead Ball

I have been told that "Dead Ball" is the correct call for softball. "Time" is the correct call for baseball.
  21. I would suggest getting in touch with Chuck at Baseball USA. They have a great umpire training program and lots of opportunities to work games. They have a basic and an advanced camp coming up in August and July. They also have a couple of their guys in "The Show" and the minors. At their camps, a lot of the instructors are these pros. Baseball USA
  22. And you can see Bill starts out 3BLE and then slides to his right as the play develops.
  23. Thanks Jeff. I had just grabbed the video and was headed this way.
  24. Nice positioning and mechanics to end the game. Nice slide by Bourn also. Video not up yet.
