  3. thanks to all of you
  4. segunda base - pittsburgh - LAA - Colorado
  5. well, she did better than 3 others that day (10th), although all of them were in the 92 with a decimal after, and she did better than 4 yesterday (11th), including 2 that had scores of 89.02 and 88 respectively. but as time goes on, she should have some higher scores and lower scores than her opening score, just like everyone else.
  6. here we go umpstu- as beerguy55 said they are "jills" or pelvic protectors. 2 kinds i found are below. https://www.purehockey.com/product/bauer-jill-pelvic-protector-womens/itm/15499-44/ https://hockey.elitesportsgroup.com/en/pro-jill-pelvic-protector/ nothing with you u.s. just a chance 2 mention ncaa has done a horrible job of recruiting women just like mlb, nfl, and nba until recently, (and no hiring violet palmer and dee kantner in 1997 with kantner getting fired)and then no one else for 17 years till lauren holtcamp in 2014 doesnt count ) and ncaa is now way behind. i never see super 5 Conference having any women on weekend games, on bases, much less the plate. dont even see them on non con either and there are tons more teams than mlb. now if they have turned mens down when asked all the time to work softball, thats fine as long as they are being asked to give baseball a try. and on pairity if they are doing softball. baseball is giving $100 per inning or $900 per game. is softball giving $100 per inning and $700 per game. and in baseball with 4 man 1 guy doesnt even work the plate on weekends so he is just being paid to be a base umpire. seems like some women could be hired to just be base umps, 3rd to second to first on weekends like the men do. and this goes for super Conference basketball and football.
  7. serious answer: tell me all the names of the ones in the power 5 Conference game weekend list and i will go ask them when they work a game in my area.
  8. and for the critics that will come out, here are some of the individual umpiring statistics for full time staff or call up staff, with the lowest 20 scores so far this year for an umpire working the plate and the highest 20 scores for an umpire working the plate so far this year. courtesy of umpscorecards. 82.31, 86.67, 86.99, 87.23, 87.36, 87.42, 87.59, 87.71, 87.84, 88.02, 88.07, 88.17, 88.19, 88.24, 88.29, 88.31, 88.33, 88.36, 88.41, 88.49. 100, 100, 99.45, 99.39, 99.28, 99.22, 99.21, 99.21, 99.19, 99.19, 99.16, 99.12, 98.85, 98.81, 98.71, 98.62, 98.61, 98.58, 98.56, 98.56.
  9. just for you - enjoy
  10. who was the former ACC supervisor to start with. scratching my head on that one, as to the leaving part.
  11. congrats for you gear people - a picture with a mask, sunglasses, scully/helmet/whatchamacallit, no hat. https://fansided.com/mlb/everything-fans-need-to-know-about-jen-pawol-mlb-s-first-woman-umpire old article https://apnews.com/article/woman-umpire-jen-pawol-1afd32aa83b5d2c074489993cd9c2adf
  12. are we sure there is not some solution that either someone on here, or out there (wherever there is) keeps to themselves and just laughs at us, rather than sharing. can we take the problem to Oz and see the wizard (and no not ozzie smith).
  13. formerly mentioned west scared to death--and was he so off in his being scared statement. olde ccs article below, and then recent article in deadspin. https://www.closecallsports.com/2018/05/gambling-ban-reversal-has-joe-west.html https://deadspin.com/mlbs-gambling-crisis-is-an-existential-threat-and-rob-manfred-isnt-taking-it-seriously/
  14. pretty much (not saying one was missed) in more recent times no umpire working 140 or more games in a season has not been hired at some point, ie tomlinson during 2024 after a 140 + season. and of the 2 you mentioned with hanahan looking like being more of the phenom, who have also been up all year, it would be just a matter of time hopefully, although there are no guarantees on anything. it is not where you start but where you finish that counts. and dont forget mr knight started as a callup in 2001 and 675 games later in 2011 went full tlme after having a 150 game call up season in 2009. and checking opening day march 27 in washington and marquez with the only TBA for a 4th crew member showing on the early preseason crew charts, and it ending up being Ramos, was that a prelude/planned/tell sign (james bond)? to what 'might' be going to happen later this season. only the shadow knows.
  15. now you are getting into a specific area that could be like the discussion going on about 'how did we get here' in mechanics section, but specifically on the who, what, when, where why of ejection competence. maybe the umpire would have, but there is a 'keep them in the game' undercurrent/underpinning to all level of sports now, where the tie goes to the (player, and on up the heirarchy AC, HC/manager) with issues of deportment, compared to the bad old days of egotistical, headline seeking, force yourself into the game umpire. the game is not about you the umpire, it is about everyone else on the field. once again, there is an inflection point in all deportment--visual/showing you up, verbal (personal profanity), and time (length of argument) limits in which for better or worse, you just have to umpire, when a casebook play just cannot be written up or the casebook would be so big/voluminous (is that a word?), you could never get out of the classroom and onto the field to even play or umpire an athletic event, because you are playing, 'but what if' all your life.
  16. 1-by the MLB rule and interpretations 2-by NCAA rule and interpretations 3-former/present umpires that were catchers and well known for their hitting exploits please respond 4-former/present umpires that were pitchers and well known for both their pitching exploits and pitching and hitting exploits please respond. and remember, no matter how great the words-smiths and linguistics and lawyer umpires on this sight could write up a perfectly definitive rule, at some point, no matter the definitive definition, there is an inflection point in every call made that, you just have to umpire. and the umpire did not did not eject a first time to the rodeo player by a long shot. https://www.espn.com/watch/player?id=45882802

  18. just remember, at lower levels with amateur players, these player/coach/manager personnel with parents and fans confrontations, and spewing their venom, is losing potential umpires who might would try to become future MLB umpires, and maybe be top notch, 95% or higher (and yes i know, anything below 100% perfect you should just be fired, like all the other 350 million people out there that are all 100% perfect at their jobs and never make a mistake or they immediately get fired), ratings on both base judgments and plate judgments even without ABS and replay, but we will never know since they walk away early.
  19. remember all those articles of umpires should be sent down, or my favorite ' fans call for umpires dismissal/firing pretty much several times a week. what's good for the goose is good for the gander. let's see the punishment, fine, suspension, sent down to MiLB for announcing retraining, or do they handle it behind closed doors, that everyone tends to hate rather than publicly announcing the punishment or non punishment. https://www.si.com/mlb/athletics-announcer-responds-after-brutally-botching-home-run-call-he-thought-was-foul
  20. which would give reliever extra time in the bull pen and maybe other things. even if it has not happened yet, glad they closed the loophole. my personal favorite part of the rule is 'intentionally or accidentally', which eliminates mind reading. hey ump it was accidental, like some other rules. hey ump, it slipped, i didn't intentionally hit him, versus, yeh it didn't slip, i intentionally hit him (Cole Hammil). at least he had the intestinal fortitude to admit it and break the 'code' of not admitting it no matter what or who/whom it is.
  21. i think some questions reguarded the fact of the catcher was not physically stepping on home plate, or those where he just barely able to tip toe up beside the plate on a pitch just inside or outside the corner of the plate, for on or in front of. and how about 'a call and the way it is handled type of call' that gets you discovered or to the big leagues. those area scout supervisors. (Fredi Gonzalez, in Philadelphia now that the basketball and baseball famous, Hank Nichols has retired, Kevin O'Connor up in Boston (from umpire media guide on stevetheump) plus the supervisor on the MLB umpire staff assigned to this crew who may or may not have been there, plus all the team scouts in the stands talking and their scuttlebutt about what a great call that was, and others not there probably loved this one.
  22. that does it. i am going out and getting a powder blue shirt with no tshirt underneath, and getting the balloon and working the slot with it, just like you guys wearing the inside chest protectors do, and carrying several canteens of pickle juice to revive myself if needed in my ball bag, since i can store baseballs in the pouch sewn into the balloon.
  23. i know you got that knotty problems book. go look it up please. the old guy i talked to said there was that one guy who always asked those type questions. when they boo'd him, that was his response. i paid my money, i'll ask my questions.
  24. ok, but lets say just runner on 2nd and this happens but ball gets by catcher and runner goes to third and manager wants to take the result of the play. is it a ball or a strike and batter stays if it is not strike 3 or ball 4 or do you check the swing or not with 1bu or call ball or strike on the pitch that got by. and then goes from there with batter count whatever it is. p.s. i paid my money, i can ask my question
