  1. This High School Year has been one I wont soon forget. I worked my first High School tournament Final(Loara Tournament), I worked Nine 3 Man High School games(Loara Tournament Final, 4 Trinity League 3 man, and 4 Playoff games), I was selected(But did not get to work. We only got 1 Semi Final as a unit and that goes to the Finals Crew) to my First High School Semi Final Crew, I was selected to work a 4 man All Star game(1st Base Pacific Coast League v. Freeway League), and yesterday morning before the All Star Game, I found out I got Selected into the Junior College Mentor Program. I am about as happy as I can be with my progress so far this year. And we are only half way done. P.S. Happy Fathers Day to all of you Fathers out there. I toast you all.

  3. Congratulations on being selected to the mentor program. That is fantastic. Have been a member of SCCUA and, if selected, you will be honored to be able to see your name in their umpiring roster. It's an unbelievable stable of umpires.

  5. PLEASE don't ask to "borrow" someone's electronic copy of any book. The umpire market is SUPER small and we are lucky that guys like Evans ,Wendelstedt, Childress, etc. take the time to create this content. Please figure out a way to pay for the content. It is cheaper than any clinic and for those of you who volunteer for 10+ games in a Little League season, why would you effectively write a $500 (10 free games x $50) check to Little League without writing a $50 check to yourself?

  8. You dont state the age group, but Im going to assume it's kid ball................if the ball was in the box, Im calling HBP.....as I have seen kids do that to defend themselves and thats enough for me to say he was not trying to get hit......if he touched it in the strike zone, then its dead ball strike 3..... Yah its kids, so a kid can slap a ball down as its coming to him? It's umpire judgement. If he had time to get out of the way, but just stood there -- what would you do? Same thing if he reaches up and catches it (or swats it down). Well if he just stood there not knowing what to do then I would just give him the base. Usually the kids try to get out of the way, I just saw 1-2 times where the kid swat at the ball while it was coming at him. Kids often freeze up. I've seen it often. I've seen the swat too. Don't expect grownup reactions from kids.

  10. I think they both knew why Collins came out. Watch at 2:59. Cederstrom is trying to hold back a laugh and seems to say "You want me to do it???" Then Collins gets to be demonstrative. and makes it look like he thinks his boys are getting jobbed. I wouldn't bet against a conversation going something along the lines of "My team sucks. Can you effin beleive that the gosh darn GM just said my job was safe? I'll be out of here by the end of the month. Help me out here Gary. I can't stand watching this sh%T any more." and Cederstrom, being one who understands the trials of his fellow man, helped out one of the nice guys in major league baseball.

  11. It's entirely possible that the first words out of the umpires mouth were "if you argue you know I'm going to have to run you." then he just listened until the manager said "okay, nows a good time."

  12. I start Monday, June 9 as the Senior Benefits Liaison/Veterans Service Officer for the newly forming Kansas City Office of The Wounded Warrior Project. It is a position I have wanted for some time and believe I am perfectly suited for. The interview process started for me in February and proceeded through five separate interviews to ensure I was the right fit for the job. I am very happy to be "on the bus" and that I will be a part of a team effort with a noble purpose. I've made and spent a LOT of money over the years but other than the money, my heart just wasn't in what I was doing. This position will allow me to utilize my legal, organizational and leadership skills, experience and training for what I believe is a just and worthwhile cause and purpose. I don't know all of my duties and responsibilities yet but I do know I am highly motivated to pursue this endeavor. Wish me luck, please.
