I just picked up 2 pairs of poly-wools (plate and base) after reading on here that many people don't dry clean them, but instead was them on a cold cycle and then hang dry. Is ironing necessary using this method? How do they look after being hang dried? My Honigs shirts (old style) usually don't look very good and have to be ironed after being hang dried. Currently I wear the Smitty charcoal grey pants which can be put in the dryer.

yes you need to iron them still

going to have to go with p1timeblue here ....most of the feedback I've seen on the PWs is a partial dry, then hang dry with no problems...

Yeah, they may look imperfect straight out of the washer, but give it overnight, and they'll look great!

I iron everything

Last time I ironed my base pants, I burned a hole straight through them right before a four day tournament. The iron was faulty and had to trash it, what type of iron would be best to purchase?

A wife.

Note: Not being disrespectful at all. If I want something ironed right, I ask my wife to do it.

Although it would be pretty tough to burn a hole in the Honig's polywool pants, those Gerry Davis, or any all polyester garments, are pretty easy to ruin with a too hot iron. When doubt, try the inside of the pants hem first.

Steam is your friend on the poly-wools. Make sure your iron has water in it before you start. I have a misting spray bottle of distilled water near my ironing board, that I use to hit clothes before I iron them. It works pretty well.

That said, they don't come out near as snappy as the dry cleaners. I'm good with an iron, but not that good. So I've got every day poly-wools, and special occasion ones.

I can iron better than cleaners can, it comes from being in the military and not wanting to spend a fortune it just takes time. Always use a cloth to cover so you dont burn it or make it look shiny or fade.
