HP Umpire Chris Segal ejected Twins manager Derek Shelton (automated ball/strike system challenge & overturn timing; QOCY) in the top of the 9th inning of the #Twins-#Orioles game. With one out and one on, Twins batter Josh Bell took a 3-2 slider from Orioles pitcher Ryan Helsley for a called fourth ball, overturned to a called third strike upon ABS challenge by pitcher Helsley. Replays indicate the pitch was located over the outer edge of home plate and thigh-high (px -0.80, pz 2.43), the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Orioles were leading, 8-6. The Orioles ultimately won the contest, 8-6.

This is Chris Segal (96)'s 1st ejection of 2026.
*This pitch was located 0.86 horizontal inches from being deemed incorrect.
Challenges must be made immediately after the umpire’s call (roughly within two seconds after the play).

This is the 1st ejection report of the 2026 MLB regular season.
This is the 2nd manager ejection of 2026. Ejection Tally: 2 Managers, 0 Coaches, 0 Players.
This is Minnesota's 1st ejection of 2026, 1st in the AL Central (MIN 1; CWS, CLE, DET, KC 0).
This is Derek Shelton's 1st ejection since August 30, 2024 (Brian Walsh; QOC = Y [Balls/Strikes]).
This is Chris Segal's 1st ejection since September 21, 2024 (Pat Murphy; QOC = N [Balls/Strikes]).

Since all sports have embraced gambling now, when will bookies start having over/unders on the number of challenges, correct/wrong challenges, PU odds on incorrect calls with a challenge, etc, etc, etc?

Do you think the MLB umpires have each thrown in $20 to see who has the best challenge percentage at the end of the year?

I'm surprised there's not already people betting on who has best/worst challenge score for game/month/year/etc.  You can bet on about anything anymore.  Gambling is taking over the sport that was so hard on players who dared to gamble... even on themselvse to win! It sure feels like they're in bed together now.

And definitely! You know those guys with their competitive spirit have a pool amongst themselves to see who is best or worst for the year.

mantle and mays took a hit for appearing at the casinos.

but, as far as gambling goes, stay away from gambling on your own personal sport and you are all right. it is basically insider trading and they know not to gamble on their own sport. go learn about all the other sports and gamble on them. plenty of other sports not to mention the dog and pony tracks.

Or just don’t gamble as a player… is the salary not enough?

I do realize that some gamble for the thrill, not the money.

Gambling was illegal in Mantle and Mays' day. 2026 is not Mantle and Mays' day. What am I missing?

The true degenerate, or gambleholic (new word that I just made up!) bets that the cute girl in the first row will drink her drink with either her right or left hand.

but what about if she sticks/extends her pinky finger out or not when she drinks it. would that count as being another bet that could be made along with which hand she uses. the analytics teams get to have field day with dreamed up what if scenarios. sounds like baseball rule book and case plays. sometimes there just aren't any written specific words you can use to bring everyone to the exact same conclusion you are looking for. yes mam, no mam.

Guys, guys, guys . . .

This isn't betting.  Betting has odds and chances and pools and wagers and bookies who facilitate things.  This is just a tech company presenting people with an opportunity to purchase a share of a fund of money which could provide a financial incentive should a probable outcome occur, or become valueless if the probable outcome doesn't occur (in which case the tech company keeps the money).  See, totally NOT gambling!  It's all fine.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I am going to call a service for a privately hired car owned and driven by somebody else (totally not a taxi!) to take me to my short-term temporary residence that I do not own and arranged to pay for on a daily basis (totally not a hotel room).
