lawump Posted April 2 Report Posted April 2 A new one for me...I ejected the PA Announcer/Player of Music in a high school game. Would not stop playing music during live balls...including twice starting to play music when the visiting team's pitcher had commenced his delivery (causing the pitcher to abruptly stop (which, of course, risks injury)). My plate umpire warned the box on multiple occasions and told the head coach to send someone up to the box to explain to him the issue and to cease and desist. Finally, on the last time, I (as crew chief) yelled at him that it was the last warning, he replied (over the microphone), "I need 15 seconds!" (apparently that's how long he thought he had a right to play music...regardless of whether the ball had been made live). And that's when I replied, "shut it down! No more announcements or music the rest of the night," while making a slashing motion across my throat. I got no arguments from anyone associated with the home team or their school. One school personnel called the PA Announcer "a clown" to us after the game. LOL 5 Quote

If it happens after ONE warning, stop the game, announce that play will not resume until the PA announcer is removed. Period. Quote

I’m surprised that didn’t trigger a snowflake. ❄️ I do a surprisingly heavy amount of stadium games, and while a scant few PAs have gotten annoying, nothing’s risen to the level of a forced removal… … except one. 2018 Expedition League, and my U1 (I was U3 CC) was rather shaky and indecisive all game. He booted a safe-out at 1B, and the Somewhere-in-Dakotas crowd lost. their. 💩. All spurred on by the PA, perched on a platform atop the home dugout, who shouted, on microphone, “Bad call! Bad call! Who here thinks that was a bad call?” Cups his ear 👂 like a WWE wrestler, and channels Steve Harvey (or Richard Dawson) with, “Survey SAYS?!” and holds the microphone out towards the crowd. Yup. Done. I strode over to the dugout, pointed right at him, and said, “Nope! You can’t be doin’ that! Put it down, turn it off, no more!” 1 1 Quote
urout17 Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 I'm working a college game a few weeks ago which shares a complex with an MLB development team. The fields are literally right next to each other. They also share the same PA system. We can hear the music playing as we're walking up to the field to work our game. The development team is in their second inning, the music blaring the entire time, the whole game, it never stopped. At our plate conference the HTHC says loudly he's sorry, but it's not going to stop. Apparently he was told they did a study and found out this generation of players play better and concentrate better with music playing. I don't know if that's true but, oh well. Their game ended in our 8th inning and it finally turned off. My ears were ringing for the next hour. Quote

This has been supported by research since I was in elementary school. Quote
