9 strap

Is the 9 strap allowed in a game since is an injury protection tool?

Devil’s Advocate post (not saying I agree with all of this)  … sorry I didn’t pull quotes to give due credit …

The Little League rule states “including, but not limited to …” which pushes that discretion to define it onto the umpire.  It is now whatever I call it.

What rule am I going to use?  
Coach: It’s a safety device!

TMIB: Is there a reason you concerned with him getting hurt swinging a bat?

Coach: No.

TMIB: Are all of your players, or even most of your players, using it?

Coach: No.

TMIB: Good, we agree.  Now, the rules say we need to talk about those wristbands on their belts …

 

As for duct taping the bat into the batter’s hands … THERE IS NO RULE SAYING YOU CAN’T!

I was on a phone call with Williamsport and argued these items were not bat alterations. 

My suggestion was to add them to 1.10 Note 1 as not allowed along with the "donut". 

Obviously I lost!

 

Based on this Post I sent LL an e:mail and asked how they would treat a 9 Strap.  No answer yet.

Update: Southern Region says a 9 Strap would be considered a bat alteration under 1.10 AR-2.

Had this discussion at a LL Outreach Clinic a few weeks ago. Don't have a clear answer yet, but the immediate gut reaction was that it would likely be treated the same as a thumb protector attached to the bat.
