Truth be told, they're not far off. LL does 10U District, Section, and State tournaments (11U too). That's only one level below what ESPN broadcasts for 12U with Regionals (San Bernardino in West for example) and LLWS (Williamsport).

I don't umpire for the pay, but you point is nevertheless valid. It was easy to endure LL when I knew a regional appearance was viable. Not so much now.
