watch from 6:08 to 7:58. we have all done it, or should have done it, or have done it but will not admit it. we had some quick timing (and many times just a flinch, but they will pick up on it). the umpire called the play correctly. was that an obstruction by the pitcher (there is a point although you would keep the play going) on the first runner before the play on the second runner. then keep watching for the next play at third on a triple. is there any other position that can be taken on the play at third on a triple. just something to watch and not feel that you are the only one it the whole wide world that had quick timing on a play and had to change it right after you did it.

on another note, starting tomorrow, we can watch these exact kinds of plays happening, with the exact same calls and timing and positioning (everything good and not so good) from Florida and Arizona for those umpires working. happens to all of us no matter the level.

I had a similar one last year. Pass ball, pitcher covers. The pitcher catches the ball and puts down the tag ahead of the plate. I wait a second, the pitcher pumps his fist and starts back to the mound, and I call the out. Then the pitcher goes to grab the ball out of his glove and turns around, confused. The ball is on the ground. @#$%

Good find on the play. It's a good reminder to go back to the fundamentals. On plays like this, wait for the ball. There's no rush in calling the runner out.

11:40-12:59. looks like nice timing for this play at the plate as it unfolded. nobody, nbc, cbs, abc, espn, etc. is going anywhere till you make the call.
