OKA - CP gap protection plates

Heh, you know what actually works best, having been rendered completely useless if you own Wilson Gold shinguards (well why would you?) and purchased an actual pair of plate shoes???

That stoooopid tarsal plate hanging off the bottom of those shinguards!!

If you’re a sensible, sane umpire, you’d have taken those plate-flaps off. If you haven’t, don’t feel bad… one of my Vultures still leaves them on and wears them with plate shoes. It looks ridiculous, but I can’t motivate him to remove them, short of showing up to our next game with all my tools rarin’ to go. Anyway, those plate-flaps can be removed, and with a bit of heat shaping, a drill, an awl, a butane torch (if ya got propane, go for it, pyro!), some 1 1/2” – 2” webbing, and some Chicago screws, you too can put your own gap protection in!

With that said, the guys who make the best ailettes (which is the technical term for those shoulder flaps) are Schutt. I’m always looking for spares, going so far to leave my card with area PIAS in the hopes they have damaged football shoulder pads they are junking. I want the ailettes and pauldrons.

Saying this, I am looking forward to the day when you find one and tinker with it (we know you will!) and create your own one-off CP!

I had actually wrote a reply to this last night. But guess I forgot to hit send. And so it is lost to the ether of the inter-webs.

But if you do not have access to the metatarsal guards on the Wilson shin guards. You can also pop into a local plastic sheet cutting company. They always have scraps laying around in many shapes and colors. And they just throw them away.

If you ask nicely, they would probably be willing to give you some scraps. And you can fashion your own gap plates.

Max will come out with some type of Tony Stark looking chest protector.  IRON UMP.
