It was me.

I knew you were responsible for the quotes. I just couldn't remember if it was you or someone else that was keeping the running list.

am not sure why, but I know of umpires who won't EJ a coach who charges them. This mystifies me.  If someone charges me from a coaching box or the dugout, they are gone, period end of story. I also do not take kindly to being yelled at from across the field or from the dugout.

Charging, Agreed.  However, I generally take other things into consideration.  If it's hotter than blazes out, I'm going to do everything I can to keep a rat in the game.  Why reward him with air conditioning and probably an adult beverage?

Update:

This past weekend I took everyone's advice and pre-gamed the issue with my partners. It was particularly surprising to me how many other umpires closer to myself in age actually felt the same way, but really didn't want to show up our elders. :D

And to my complete (un)surprise, we got to put it to use! First two games were really good baseball and went off seamlessly. On the third game of the day, I was PU and partner was BU. My partner had to be a year or so younger than myself, but I was definitely getting good vibes when he initiated the pre-game, which I usually have to do. Bottom of 3rd, R1, no outs, the battery was making my job a walk in the park and a beautiful throw laser from F2 combined with a great tag nails the runner stealing at 2B on a banger. VHC starts off rather mellow and goes out to talk with my partner. My partner refused to go for help (no kidding man?) and VHC finished it off with a "thats complete Bull-sh@%!" and almost simultaneously got tossed by partner and myself. Other than that, the baseball was fantastic for 12/13u and the weekend was a blast! :FIRE:

Thanks to everyone for your critiques and advice! :)

Does this change anything for you?

To me that EJ didn't get much more straightforward

There were a few "oh c'mon"s on borderline balls and strikes, and a bit of chirping immediately after the EJ, but nothing remotely close to EJ worthy.

Mission accomplished.

What? No. The point to the OP was that -- as hoped -- things would settle down once someone was bounced and our friend learned and shared a good lesson about game management.

If I am with a younger ump I will protect him 100% and give him the chance to clean it up but if he is scared or it keeps going I will step in and take control. It is ridiculous to watch grown men try to bully a 17 or 18 year old kid

If I am with a guy who is my age or older I tend to let it go until it effects me and eventfully it effects me because they think if they can talk to him like that they can talk to me like that and they figure it out when they are in the parking lot they cant talk to me like that.

As far as the parents in the stands go I never talk to parents ever. If it becomes a problem for example if they are cussing or just non stop crying about everything I will flag down the white hat and let him handle it.

I work as a white hat and have ejected a lot of people over the years from the stands for cussing or acting stupid. My umpires work hard and the last thing they need or deserve is a loser in the stands acting stupid and degrading them.

I'm not going to let a coaching staff lay into my partner, but I'm definitely going to give my partner a chance to handle his own business.  One time I was on the dish and the HC and some ACs just went ballistic on my partner after a close play.  When they continued to holler at him after the next pitch, I told them to leave it alone.  Letting coaches tear your partner to shreds is going to empower them to go off on you later.
