If the ball hits the jug and ricochet back it will be in play or out of play. And if the ball rest on the lid what it will be. That's a good price. I got an Igloo for about $10 less with the chain link fence function Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk

I've got something similar. Got it from Walmart for about 8 bucks. My wife sewed a pocket to the fabric sleeve on the outside. In it, I can keep my cellphone, spare pencil and spare indicator. I also secure it to the fence with a carabiner. I attach the keys to my truck to the 'biner, which keeps me from driving off without my water jug. (and I don't recall a ball ever hitting it, much less getting stuck on it)

I prefer to bring something I don't have to retrieve if the game ends on a controversial call.

I use the same container. I also find that it hooks into chain link fence pretty well.

We aren't allowed to hang water on the fences. We have 1 stadium that you can put a water bottle in the gutter of a dugout, but nothing inside or on the fences.

If the game we are doing does not have water delivered from the dugouts, then I have seen a bottle in a ball bag or keep your water in a dugout.

It can get pretty hot here in Bakersfield so they understand...This I think will look better than water bottles jammed in to the fence, besides, putting your water in the dugout with High School players, you never know what they will put inside it...I have heard some Icy Hot has made its way onto an Umps jug spout before....  LOL

Every team has water - I have no problems asking for a cup.

A couple of our High Schools have well trained trainers. They provide water to Umps during games as well as a sports drink. When we get to league ball or travel, the picture changes dramatically. I don't care...water bottles stuck in the fence are preferable to a trip to the hospital...

These threads bring back a lot of memories for me.

I used to work with an old-timer who we lost many years ago and everyone called him Sarge. He was a drill sergeant in the Marine Corps. After he retired he started umpiring. Old-school hard-core guy with a crew-cut who looked the part of a Marine drill Sargent.

He used to wear a canteen while working the bases on hot days. One of those old school military issue ones. Every once in a while a coach or player would make some derogatory comment about the canteen. His response was always the same. He said "son ( he called everybody son) I had more kills than anybody in my platoon this canteen accompanied me on everyone of them while protecting this country so you can be a smart ass on a ball diamond." I heard him make the speech several times and no players or coaches ever took the issue  of the canteen or much else any further with him.

As a footnote I asked him if the story was true. He said after he got promoted to Sgt. he always he was in basic training and never saw any actual combat.  I miss Sarge.
