MiLB Class A - Protest

PROTEST UPHELD! A wild play at the end of last night's Asheville-Charleston game resulted in a walkoff win for the RiverDogs. The Tourists, however, filed a protest claiming that the home plate umpire had called time after the tying run scored and before the winning run came across. The South Atlantic League concurred, and the game will resume at that point before tonight's regularly scheduled contest. Video:

What are the rules at this level on the manager coming to argue?

looks like PU called time as manager comes to argue, but the BR was obviously between first and second, so time shouldn't have been called. but the rest of the play takes place as manager is yelling at PU.

looks like to me some blame has to go to the manager........

I take no pleasure in saying the umps did not get this right and it is a good upholding of the protest. 

The PU clearly called time. Whether he should have at that point with runners in motion is debatable, but in my mind it was fine. Action was not stopped, but relaxed enough. So you appear to have R1, R3 and a run scored. 

Now my biggest concern is that the umpires seemingly let the game end with the second run scoring and not telling everyone time was called and the runners are at 1st and 3rd.

We'll have to let Rich answer, but the way I read his post he's saying time CANNOT be called. Sounds to me like he's saying play on even though the umpire called time. This is not how the league ruled. Time was called, runners on 1st and 3rd tie game.

5.12 Calling “Time” and Dead Balls (b ) (8) Except in the cases stated in paragraphs (2) and (3)(A) of this rule, no umpire shall call “Time” while a play is in progress.

A.R. A fielder may enter the dead-ball area as long as the player re-enters live ball
territory at the time of the catch.
a) If ground rules allow, the fielder may throw from this dead-ball
territory.
b) For the safety of spectators and players, facility ground rules may
preclude a fielder from throwing from dead-ball territory. Local rules
may require the fielder to re-enter live-ball territory to make a throw.

This just shows you don't even know what happened here.

Clue: The protest was upheld because the umpires allowed the run to score after they called time.  If "umpires can't call time" then the league would have not changed anything..........

It's cute that you think umpires can't call time. I had a coach try to protest that I couldn't eject players once, you must be one of those type of guys.

 

Ah, because PBUC and OBR totally covers NCAA.

FED doesn't even allow catch and carry, but guess what in any of your LL games, no throws from DBT.
