A couple years ago, state tourney game (not anywhere near the finals!) I'm on the stick.......runner coming from 2B to home.....I get 3BLX like I should and OMG.....It was PICTURE PERFECT.   I had the most incredible, CORRECT angle for the swipe tag.    The catcher whiffed by an inch or less, but I could see daylight.    I call the runner safe.

I'm hearing some major chirping from the stands and I hear these guys right behind HP saying "we got that man....rewind it.......that guy BLEW that call."

We're still between the play and the pitch, and these guys have obviously rewound the video they captured and I heard "Oh WOW.......he NAILED IT"

I tell that story b/c it's a highlight of my career.  I was in the right position at the right time to make the right call.  It helps that they were chirping and were able to go back and look at it to confirm my ruling.    I never heard anything from those guys for the rest of the game.

I had three plays at the plate yesterday. On each one, the read on the impending play had me rotating counter clockwise.

From my vantage at the point of the plate, F2's position on each play suggested that I move toward 3BLX. As each play developed I rotated with F2's hips and positioned myself in the "wedge", which meant I was in the left handed batter's box for two and in front of HP for the other. There was no doubt on each call because there was a clear view on each - they were all punch outs.

I was fortunate on each play and it was nice that each play was easy to read in its development. Any one of them could have blown up, but I think I would have still been in the best place to see the play.

Try to find that wedge, which may be in lots of different places, and when you find it, be prepared to adjust as needed.
